Pros and cons of new take off Wolf wheels

Does anyone have any experience with Genuine Land Rover "Wolf" New Take off wheels and/or wheels and tires?

I have found a guy with the following: 6 1/2J x 16 x 20.6 wheels. He wants $65 a piece. I could also get them mounted with South African Good Year G90 tires for $125 a piece. They appear to be two-piece wheels. I am unfamiliar with this. Are all Wolf wheels two piece? Are there pros and cons of this arrangement?

I have attached a couple of pictures.

Worth it? Trouble spots? Shipping is going to be a bit of a bear and expensive.

I believe these tires and wheels are coming from a LR armoured car builder in the Southern US. So there are a fair number of sets about, though perhaps less than there were earlier this year. I've seen sets of 5 offered for $1k us Shipped with tires mounted, or about $750 without shipping. The rims are one piece (two pieces welded together, just like almost all steel rims) and are very stout. If you have drum brakes the studs will be a little bit too short although that does not seem to really be a problem but it looks dicey to some. The wheel are heavy for what that is worth.

These rims also appear to be tube type rims and not the tubeless ones that I have heard about (but never seen). I and many others have used tube type rims for years without tubes and never had a problem but that is up to you and your tolerance for risk.

I've heard that the g90 tires suck in the rain on pavement, and are great in sand and mud, but no experience just repeating internet rumors. They are 750 x 16 which is a narrow 31 or 32" tire, 235 85 16 is a tiny bit wider and other sizes will give you a bit more contact patch as well.

Thanks DB. According the guy selling them they are tubeless rims from a 2008 Defender. I know this is a very subjective question, but it seems like a decent deal even bearing the expense of shipping. Or am I off base? Thanks, Christopher

how are they shipping them? greyhound may be cheaper than other methods. Limit per package there is 100lbs so might need to strap tow or three together for two sperate parcels. And not much need to wrap them or box them up. Should save a bit that way. is that $125 each for the rim and tire or $65 plus $125? Why do you want them? Gotta give us more to go on if you want an online value assessment :)

*laughing* Fair comment. I may be moving to San Diego and foresee some time on the trails of NM, NV, UT, and perhaps Mexico. Its $65 per wheel for the wheel only and $125 per wheel and tire in total e.g. $625 for 5 wheels and five tries mounted and balanced. Shipping isn't actually clear to me beyond the fact it will be freight.

Also keep in mind that WOLF wheels are allot thicker so the wheel nuts don't go through all the way. There is alway one thread left witch leaves the stud recessed in the wheel nut. You can always change your studs for longer ones if need be.

To be added to the risk factor ...

For my self I run them and like them allot and the way I see it if you ever manage to rip them from the studs missing a thread, your probably in more trouble than just loosing a wheel ...

So the concept of studs not being quite long enough has cropped up twice now. I generally agree with you, bigger problems are afoot if you lost a wheel because of a thread...

I have a 97 D90 with four wheel disc brakes. Do I get more stud length because of this and likely face less of an issue? Thanks again

I have had two sets of Wolf wheels for about 7 years or so. The only con I can think of is they are heavier, but they also have a much higher load rating. I haven't had any issues with the slightly too short studs.

Make sure to get in writing the rims are stamped tubeless. There were also tube type. If they have G90's on them odds are they are tubeless since the G90's are.

I really liked my set of G90's, but if you get them, they have to be for off-road only, as they wear really fast on pavement. I wish I'd been more careful with mine, cause I really liked them off-road.

I've had a couple of sets of these in the past, good wheels, like was said though, quite weighty (not that it affected the road manners one bit of my 90 and 110)


for tube rims, look for the part number ANR5593PM stamped on it

for tubeless, it's ANR4583PM

They're qiote good when new, i mean, REALLY new.....


after that they're cr@p. rubbish on tarmac, rubbish in mud.

The MoD tend to fit michelin XZL 235/85's in place of the G90's now.

Okay, everyone, if I bot just the wheels what tires would you put on them for off road, some light on road use in southern CA, and sand?

They are 16.5J x 16 x 20.6.
