What would you do? Buy 5 255/85 KMs at $780....or 4 KM2s 285/75 at $842???

Get the KM2s, better tire and you can replace one if you need to in the future.

Love the look of the KMs but BFG is phasing them out...KM2s may be safer. I do think 255/85 is a better size though.

I just went through the same process. I went with the 255 KMs. I hear what folks are saying about the KM2s, but I think the KMs have more of a down-to-business look while the KM2s have sort of a weekend warrior boy toy look. Speaking to the matter of quality, it's my third set of KMs, and I've been very satisfied with them all around. If you want them, you better move fast. I went through two vendors to get a set of 5.

I agree , 255-85 is the way to go.
I am very pleased with the performance/looks of my KM
The km2 look too much like Interco SSR ( in my opinion )

have had about 6 rigs with km's. i put a set of km2's on a landcruiser. i like them. not sure if they are better, but they were quieter than i expected.
the main reason for the switch was i didnt want to deal with spare availability if i cut one. i wasnt big on the interco product look either, but im a convert now. im debating putting them on the 110.

I have always used KM's as it is a great tire based on my experience in all soil types, and they have earned my loyalty over time with respect to resistance to sidewall damage, many of times when a normal tire should not have survived. I have no experience yet with the KM2's, as I purchased my last set for the 110 right before the release. If I had to go with new tires right now, I would pass on the KMs, KM2 and buy 5 XZL's from Steve while he has them "Hot Now" fresh out of the oven. Hard to get tire (probably because of the war is my guess). KM's are great, but you just can't beat the XZL's. Just about everything is running XZL's here in Iraq. (there's still a bunch of HUMMVEE's running Firestone Wrangler's too (WTF?).

I think all of us with Defenders are guilty of that same type of vanity in one way or another. ;) And to the extent that vanity is a sin, those of us who chose one great tire over another great tire based on the way it looks are going to a much shallower level of hell than those who get an SUV and put 20 inch rims on in it.

Guess that's vanity too..lol
BTW.. My KM2's are 2 weeks old and I am really impressed... Much more quiet than my old BFG mud terrains and better stability. I feel indestructable when driving the rover now... Now if I could only find some mud :hmm

Well, it all depends. When your tires were being mounted were you asked whether you wanted the letters inside or out, or did you broach the subject first? If you specified up front how you wanted the letters, that's one level deeper into the hell of Defender vanity! :rolleyes

I am working on it. Once I get my new shocks and springs on I will be much happier.
