All four of the felines in the house are OK, but the two on the D90, especially the right one, seem to be dieing.

I've had a rattle in the pass side one for awhile, but now the rattle is gone and instead the engine seems to have a hesitation, sputter, and lack of power - is this symptomatic of a blocked/restricted catalyst? I've also heard that if a cat blocks up completely, it can be disasterous for the motor.

Is there a cheap fix? I've got almost 140k on the engine and a Tdi in the works, so I really only need it to last a few more months, and I'd rather not toss an 800 dollar Y-pipe up under the truck, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Incidentally, I did see the Meineke replacement in the Tech Section, but no one around here seems to be interested in doing that work.

Suggestions would be very much appreciated.

TIA - Jim

You can do this

Or you can take them off and clean out all the broken bits inside and be just as happy for free!

Ah, I wondered if pulling the pipe and dumping out the broken bits would work. Looks like I have a project this weekend. Its cheaper than 800 bucks...

I am trying to get some information for a friend:

He is installing a set of Headman Headers on his 95 D90 and would like to replace the cats. Has anyone ordered the Summit Racing Universal Cats (Catco) and installed them on their D90? What model/part # did you use?

TIA,

John C.
