Water pump replacement

I have just changed ou my water pump and have one concern that, perhaps, someone else has come across. When removing the bolts, one of the long ones (that go into the block itself) was covered in sediment. At first I thought the bolt was rusted, but after I cleaned it, there is no pitting or flaking. There was also no sediment in the radiator/cooling system, though the fluid was slightly discolored.

Any Ideas? Am I in for more problems down the road? Seriously, I have checked my manual and can find nothing on this. Thanks for taking the time to answer. mm.
PS., I checked the AQ's and found nothing simular.

Did you try cleaning out the hole to see how bad it was in the bolt hole itself?

Yes, I cleaned out the bolt hole and got a little sediment. I also used a compressor to blow it out and applied an anti sieze compound.
Everything went together fine and there are no further leaks from the pump. I guess it may have been water intrusion into the bolt hole. I checked the old gasket and found that the installer had only put silicone gasket material around the outside of the casing and not around each bolt.
Thats my best guess, let me know if I need to do something differently. PS: any secrets to getting the system completely full again?

Not sure what is the best way to fill the sytem. I have heard that parking facing uphill works. I would fill it, then drive a little, fill it some more if you can, then keep a gallon of collent with you for a little while just in case.

the bearing on my water pump is begining to go ... i already bought the replacement pump. any advise on the replacement proceedure? how long does it take?

Hey Nick, check here http://www.d-90.com/faq/Engine/EngCooling.html#Pumps. I would give youself a day to do the job as it's a real pain sometimes to get the clutch fan off. Get some right stuff to put on all the long bolts.
