Source for hard line (High pressure bypass?) on steering box?

Mine fell victim to diesel vibration, contacted an edge, and is leaking bad. I just need the pipe and fittings. I guess I could cut the pipe for the fittings and have one made locally but was wondering if I could source an original or one from a parts truck.

Looks like same basic material as brake line. A good auto parts store will have it.

It is normal metric thread.

the flare ends are unique to a PS application. forget about having one made. Best bet is to cut it and rejoin with a compression sleeve.

or get one off a parts truck with a bad box that isn't rusted too bad.

well, I've never had that line out and I don't know what flare kit you have, but the ends of the other two PS lines are not anything then can be done with a typical single/double flaring kit that is typically used for brake and fuel lines. On the other hand a good compression sleeve from your local hydraulic shop will work and probably be under $5. I have one in the high pressure line from the PS pump to the box with no problems.

What I'll probably do is remove the line with the fittings and go to a local hydraulic shop I know of to see what they can do.

Sorry KB....didn't get your call 'till a couple minutes ago when I shut the welder down...finally. The lines I used on your PS originally were factory RRC lines. You can take those to any good hydraulic shop and they can cut the ends off and make you anything you want. You might want to wrap them with some of that spiral wiring loom type stuff like the stock lines are.

I'll give you a shout tommorow about the bulkhead. I'm going home for a nap now.

Flares look pretty ordinary to me Dave. I was able to source a used line from a breaker. I needed to clean it off and use a magnifying glass to actually see the crack which obviously would have gotten worse quickly. Must be a bunch of pressure in that line. I'll solve the clearance issue when I put it all back together and assume I will need to bleed the box.

I guess I should have asked. It was only $20 shipped so it's not too bad. I would have made my own but the shortest piece of Cunifer line in 5/16" I could find was 6 feet for about $30 and then add shipping.

different flare from the other two lines, they both use an o-ring.

that one does look similar to some of the brake lines I've seen on RR's etc. Couldn't tell you what it actually is though. ISO maybe?

That would be a really thick brake line too.

FedHill has all the connectors, it's 14mm 1.5 pitch

I see, but the line itself is not metric then. Got it.

It could be 8mm pipe but the difference would only be 3 thousandths of an inch and the flare would come out identical.
