Thumbs up for Paddock spares

I ordered a bunch of front end stuff for the Lawib and it was on my doorstep 7 days after the on line order was placed. All of it was either Known Manufacturer brands or "Britpart". Same as some domestic retailers carry. I was shorted one item, which I emailed them about and it showed up two days later. I spent about $260 for what would have cost me well over $800 had I ordered it from the "usual suspects"

Would you be willing to post a breakdown of item costs and shipping costs? I pay about $425/cu metre and it takes a lot longer than that to get from Bristol to here (Ottawa), plus any UK domestic shipping charges which are really the savings killer in general. Mostly though I get things that just are not available here, like the two late-model front doors and td5 rear door on the way now :)

No customs. It all came via USPS. Box of stuff was GBP 34 for shipping charges. Didn't have to pay VAT. Very easy to do business with so far. They aren't going to be your sole source of course, but for amassing parts prior to an anticipated job, like overhauling your axle, they are hard to beat.

Always had good service with Paddock, parts quality sometimes differ but that is not their fault more to do with Britpart.

I have purchased many parts from them & always shows up in 6-7 days via UPS. Why pay more than you have too..even with the exchange rate and shipping cost 99% you come out ahead.

I'm having my galvanized rear cross member fitted today which was bought from Paddocks, shipped to mom, taken to the galvanizers, collected and then brought over as outsize baggage!!

John Craddock also has great service and ships to the US.

I paid 60 quid for the rear x-member

had it delivered to my mothers house in th UK- She then took it to Medway galvanizing

who galvanized it for about 70 quid. She then collected it and brought it with her on a flight when she came to visit.

So I guess it cost about 220 dollars and obviously shipping was free in this case.

Just so you know ... I grew up about 5 miles from the galvanizers, my mother still lives close (ish) and I'm an expat brit living in NY ... so dealing with all this is no bother.

If I were you, I'd get paddocks to ship the cross member without extensions and get it galvanized in the US. It would certainly be cheaper than buying one locally. I know everyone always recommends a cross member with extensions but the shipping would probably cost a lot more ( calculated by weight and size ). Any reasonable mechanic / fabricator used to dealing with chassis welding could build the extensions if required.

Call Paddocks and talk to them - remember that you'll probably be able to get some other small items shipped within the shipping charge so make a list.

As I said the garage is fitting my X-member today so I can't comment on the ease of fitting, however I don't really see many other options at a reasonable price.

I have to admit I am usually too busy to stop and dig up reciepts for stuff from two weeks prior- I just mail the check to the customs people and forget about it.

I have never had to pay a customs charge or any kind of tax when ordering from the UK. I've received things via regular slow-ass mail, not-much-better ParcelForce, and UPS.

you're lucky the britpart parts you got actually fitted properly, they have a terrible reputation.Us Classic owners are pretty much at the mercy of the aftermarket. Mr Rover has abandoned us to the cold cold world.

Fortunately, the Britpart sway bar rubbers fit up pretty well. I bought them from a domestic supplier, not Paddocks. I can't speak to the bearings and swivel pins yet, as I haven't installed them.

I have been hit with customs fees. Can't recall which vendor, but not sure how it's vendor specific unless it's the way they declare the goods when the ship them.

Please remember be careful bringing in bearings as you will be flagged, and they will hold up the whole shipment. As far as I know they are still a formal entry whereas under $2000 is an informal entry and does not need the services of a customs broker. Better to source them locally

I ordered a few things from Paddocks today. I am interested to see how quickly they will arrive to the Chicago area. Hopefully my experience will be as good as everyone else.

Got my truck back from having the rear cross member fitted. Looks like the work took about 5hrs and cost me about $400.
