Electric Fans & Air Conditioning

I am thinking of changing out the original engine driven fan with a Flex-a-Lite 210. I have a factory alternator and A/C system. My question is for anybody out there who has the same setup or has tried the same setup. Does the alternator put out enough power or am I creating another problem for myself?

The alts good and if you get a puller fan you will be all set to put it in place of the clutch fan.

That is the plan Mike. I just want to make sure there is enough "juice" to power the A/C system, 19.5 amps on the new electric fans, jammin radio, headlight, etc. I am looking for somebody who has ALL of this installed.

I can run the E-fans, the AC, the heat, the radio (all 400 watts) the Fog lamps, the headlamps, and the wipers with no problems. Last winter the Ac pushed out heat sometimes so I would put it on high at the same time as the heat on high with everything else. Is that ALL enough for you.

Why go electric? Doesn't make much sense to me. It's one more electrical failure waiting to happen.

I think my viscous coupling is on its way out. It is not much more $$ to put in new electric fans. I am also hoping for a bit more MPG and a reduction in noise. All knowing Mike (AKA....AKM :nerd ), any thoughts on the MPG and noise situation?

A bit noisier at idle no real change in mileage as the viscous only should really be engaging at low speeds (under 20-30 mph). I never realy keep track of milage as I fill up at about 170 miles and put in 14 gallons. And whats with the :nerd comment ???? Would you like replies with :finger

Only 170 miles? Wow, I go 220-ish miles and put in 14 gallons. As for the :nerd I am just yanking your chain.

Well 170 is lasts a week and on average thats with 4+ hours of wheeling each week and very little highway. Don't look for any real mpg or power improvments but when I looked into it the clutch fan was more then the 210 flex.

Why go electric? Doesn't make much sense to me. It's one more electrical failure waiting to happen.Because v-coupling sucks and doesnt do the job. Electric dual fan will pull more air than the stock unit could ever do, and if you take the extra step to wire them right, you can turn them on or off on demand when you need it to be running, not wait until your engine is already on the verge of overheating. Or not running as in deep water crossings.

Did Defender's come with a stock electric fan? When I bought mine I had both the clutch fan and a single electric in front of the radiator.
