I thought I'd resurrect this subject. We kinda faded on the last try.

What trips are already scheduled in Nov and Dec that might be of interest to others?

Maybe once we all see what is already organized, we could fill in the gaps with runs to Paragon PA, Ringwood NJ, Florida trail MA, or any other.

Personally, I could make a Paragon trip 1-2 Nov or NJ trip 8-10 Nov and maybe a MA/VT run in Dec.

I'd encourage everyone to throw in their $0.02, especially those who sit on the fringes.

Nov. 1-2, 8-9 are no good for me. But the rest is open. Jimmy from MAR and I will be taking a group out the 9th in NH for a day trip if anyone is intrested. Other then that as long as the Rover Gods are good to me I am up for anything. Maybe we could do a day trip from Florida MA to Paragon to Ringwood because I know how Dave likes spending more time on the road then sleeping.:grin

:grin I was hoping we could caravan to Florida, or Moab. Non-stop.

Mike, what's the story with that ride on the 9th? I saw some chit-chat about it on the yahoo group.

The 9th Jimmy and I are planning a trip for any Rover owners modified or stock. The trail follows under some power lines and is 2 trails side by side one is easy enough for stock rovers and the other is a little hard. THe place we are stopping for lunch is a quary with allot of very chalenging lines (bring your lunch there is no Subway nearby).

The pic is deceiving, the first step is actually 2 feet high.

Ahh my pic got choped! i must of resized it wrong.

What's with all that rock crawling?? Don't you like the mud of VA???

Mike, that looks like a great run! But if I were a betting man, I'd say that you need to schedule at least ONE weekend between trips for you. Gives you some "quality" time with your wrenches under the truck.

Mike Hippert
October 24th, 2003, 03:54 PM
ken, I was too busy playing in the mud too take pics of it, and Jimmy forgot his camera.

Gives you some "quality" time with your wrenches under the truck.

I do that on week nights in the cold dark (my neighbors think i'm nuts but you guys know I,m not......... right?).

As far as YOU know...

It's not bad when you start hearing voices. It's bad when you start ANSWERING them.

Is it bad when you start using colorful metaphors when you are describing how you feel towards an inanimate object that somehow manages to defy the laws of physics and makes a mockery of you?

I ran FL road Saturday with a buddy. Finally made it up an obstacle I've been trying for some time. There is already snow in the Berkshires. I would imagine in another week or two, weather depending, snow is going to close the trail to anyone without chains. Seems like it's getting colder, earlier this year.

Jorge, you might remember this step? You and Dave Smith did it at the OTR event... It's the third real obstacle in. Only took me two-three tries...

The hard part about that 5 foot step is not just the shear drop, but the wet leaves and surrounding trees. Too close for comfort.

Getting setup for the climb:

Dante, you in?

Apparently the northeastern Hummer groups will be there, along with other rigs:

"I'm forwarding an email from and invite that was offered to the
New England Hummer Owners Group. This event is open to
any 4x4 and it's a run down at Paragon in PA. on Nov. 1st.

I can't get down there next weekend but for anyone that can
it's $20 plus bring a toy to wheel at Paragon all day. "

Have fun!:grin

Dave, those are AWESOME photos. You guys have all the good trails up there.

It's also a funny contrast to see the thumbnail of your truck shown under your name on the left next to the shiny truck in the right, Thread column. Looks like you dumped a couple roll of quarters at the car wash....

With the snowflakes falling, I guess I should start looking into chains if I want to make the Dec or Feb trips...

chrisvonc
October 27th, 2003, 10:03 PM
The first weekend of Nov is the monthly ride weekend at Paragon as well as the Toys for Tots ride so expect a crowd.

I wont be able to make it as I am working our local Dealership run a couple mountains up the road.

October 29th, 2003, 12:01 PM
Nice..... if you are only going for the day, Let me know and I might go with you if thats ok... by the way, can you run beadlocks on the street also? Will they balance? Who made the rims?

Why don't we reset? 9 Nov (Sunday) should work for me.

How about the rest of you? I think that one full day would be good. Maybe spend the night at a motel Sun eve and drive home on Monday. But, that's just MY vote...

mudrover
October 29th, 2003, 08:47 PM
Ken, the 9th sounds good to me.

Randy, these beadlocks (made by allied) are technically not "DOT" approved and are labeled for affroad use only. First off as you know most cops probably wouldn't know this and wouldn't hassle me, and if I was ever stopped for running them I'd say that they are the streetlock "simulated" beadlocks. This however doesn't mean that they are unsafe. Most manufactures don't have the $$$ to have them tested by the DOT and are therefore not approved for road use(one manufacture has done so, and as a result their beadlocks are $300++). The one thing you have to do is to consistantly check the torque on the bolts to make sure they don't come loose. If I was going to balance then I'd use equal(kinda like adding sand), but in my opinion the MTRs are pretty good wthout balancing. Plus its not like they're going on vehicle that will go above 70 mph, so I see no need to. The MTRs on the rover aren't balanced and I have done 90++ mph, but I don't recommend it, remember I'm a crazy teenager.

I'm going to drive up early Sun morning. (Not as early of a schedule as Mike H or Dave M usually keep, since I won't leave until about 5am). I think its about a 3.5 hr drive for me. Can we say... 9-ish for me? I can meet you on the trail or in the parking lot. we can share cell phone #s offline and that may help getting together if we're running late.

November 4th, 2003, 06:23 PM
Randy, Bring Hunter along. There's plenty of room in the bed of my truck.

Shall we set a rendezvous plan? The website says that they open at 9AM. I'll do my best to be at the gas station (or the park) by then. Shall we say CH 35 if we miss one another? They close at 4PM and you know how we like to be timely on getting back to the gate. haha

Also, don't forget to bring your D-90 coupon from the "Specials" link above.

Jorge (Randy and Hunter), Dante, Pete, CVC and Lisa, and me (and Zach). Is that the crowd?

Damn, no coupon? I guess that Zach will have to wait until NEXT payday to get the rawhide bone that he's always wanted...

My buddy may come, if y'all don't mind. He's got a Jeep with a little lift and mud tires. Not a real technical rig. If you don't think it appropriate, he could just ride with me. Just trying to be a good trail-mate. Oh, and we'll leave "the heat" at home.

Jason, I'm gonna leave here at about 5AM. We'll go through Harrisburg, but I think you might be better off meeting the guys at the gas station at 9am instead of you and me trying to caravan. You might be more likely to get on the trails early rather than wait for me.

Good to have you on the board and the trip.

It was a pretty good day out I thought. Got a real late start but it was nice to meet some new faces, ended up with a sizable group including some we didnt count on. Could have used another 2 hours of time but with the winter hours for the park, 1/2 the group was not able to run the 2nd trail and we were definatly not going to repeat being late on getting out again this time.

Anyway, if anyone got pictures, send them over to me and I will get them on the site. I am going to try and kill off the amazing backlog of updates I have let build up this week.

Chris, Thanks again for being our fearless leader. I think we all appreciate your magnanimity, in EVERYTHING.

Just to let the rest of you guys know, they only allow groups of 3 on the trails. A Hummer came over, said that his group failed to show up, and he ended up joining us for the day. Later, Chris met a stock Wrangler at the front gate and brought him in as an orphan too. Ended up being an interesting crowd of D-90s, Discos, Land Cruiser, Range Rover, Hummer and later a Wrangler.

It was fun to meet the new people and to hear about Randy's project. Dave and Mike, you gotta be laughing when the guys are complimenting ME for my spotting job. Well, I was taught by the best...

Anyone interested in visiting northern new hampshire's great north woods? We are going on a "Turkey Trot" on Sunday Nov. 30th and again the following weekend. Most of the trails are stock rover friendly but a few are not! Called it quits in three feet of mud at 7:00PM last night
