Crane Cams--are they available?

I am trying to find info on Crane Cams for the Rover V8. I have checked their site and a bunch of places, but can't find any part numbers/info. Do any of you run one and if so, do you have a part number or even a cost estimate? Thanks!

You can buy them from Mike Green at www.offroadexperience.com. He's done a lot of Rover v8 performance work.

Summit Racing has Crane Cams for Rover V8's...along with performance lifters and roller timing sets. You won't find it in the catalog...you'll have to call them. I think I paid $150-200 for the cam and less than $100 for lifters and about $70 for a roller timing set. We used cam part number 900531, which is a mild RV cam and put it into a 4.6L for my Brother in laws 94 Range Rover. We are very pleased with the performance.

I would probably pick the 900531 based on my positive experience with it. I think it is the mildest grind that Crane makes for the Rover V8. If you call Summit racing, they can give you a better idea of how the cams they offer will perform...such as power and torque curves. I chose the 900531 because the power and torque peaks were not too far up the RPM range...the car rarely sees 4000 plus rpm, and smooth low rpm power and torque is what is needed for off roading. I didn't want a lumpy race car idle or a power band I couldn't use. Summit Racing has a nice web site and the phone number is available there. They have always had what I wanted in stock.

Is it nesescary (spelling?) to also do the lifters and rollers when you do the new cam? I am assuming that as long as your in there you might as well do it. Am I right?

As the cam and lifters wear together, you must replace the lifters...as for the timing chain, you need to inspect it for wear and stretch and replace it if necessary...I personally would not do the job without replacing it as it is cheap insurance and if the cam is worn enough to warrant replacement, the chain will be too.

Thanks, I am planning on installing a edelbrock intake manifold and 4 barrel carb sometime this summer and as long as I have it apart I might as well change the cam. Summit seems to have a good selection for rovers, you just need to ask. There prices are not that bad either.

Thanks for the help--I ordered the cam and lifters today. Crane Cam #900531 and Lifters #99284-16 for those that are looking for a distributor drive cam with a high torque/low rpm V8 profile. Basically $145cam/$80 lifters from Summit Racing.
