Hey Guys,

This question probably belongs in a different forum. However, I was wondering if any of you have painted your fiberglass roofs? If so, what was the procedure (sanding, priming, what kind of paint)? Any pics that you could post would be greatly appreciated. I have been contemplating painting my roof to match the Java Black.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

I'm planning to paint mine too but I just havent gotten around to it. Summer in SC sux for working outside. I'm planning on a quick sand to rough up the surface, then I'm going to use "Straightline" filler sold by the people who make POR-15 - it has a high resin content so it adheres like crazy. I would think a marine-grade filler for fabricating or repairing fiberglass would also be a good choice. After the filler, I'm either going to paint with spray cans (sounds trailer park I know, but there really isnt much surface area on the sides) or take to a local body shop. I might spray can the sides and take the roof panel to a body shop. I thought I would paint the inside of the roof light grey and the inside of the side panels in body color.

One of the LR mags had a picture of a yellow D with it's f-glass top painted to match on the sides, and the roof was painted Alpine white. It looked really sharp. About two years back.

I recently just saw a Conniston 90 ST listed on eBay with it's top painted black...it looked great!

Eric, I'm pretty sure the 90 with the yellow fiberglass top you're referring to resides here in Colorado. The current owner's name escapes me right now, but I believe the vehicle used to belong to Robert Kolander of AZ.
(EDIT) I tried to find some full body photos but was unable (EDIT)
If you check out my drop curtain write up under the custom mods section, the second photo is of that same D90. It does look pretty cool in person - sorry I can't find the photo.

Art,

You're right. the mag had the car listed at Breck if I remember for like some obscene price.

Yousef? You've wheeled with that vehicle. Didn't I see some photos posted on a site somewhere from a year or so ago?

I am curious about how to deal with the texture of the F-glass top. If you sand it while doing prepaint prep would you not remove the texture? This would be an especially difficult problem after a repair with the additional fiberglass overlaid. How is best to maintain or reconstruct the texture? any ideas?

I was just planning on filling in the texture - I cant say I think it really adds anything to the appearance - and it would just look odd on my truck with an AA yellow leather grain.
