Door Leaks

Its raining here in southern california and now I am having some leaking issues. I am getting water coming in the top of the driver and passenger doors. It comes in between the rubber seal on the door jam and the rubber strip attached to the door. I turn corners and get streams of water going down the windows and on to the door panels on both driver and passenger sides. Rubbber appears to be fine and doors fit well so I'm not sure how to fix it.

Anyone else deal with this leak before?

There's a few solutions for it:

Option 1. Remove carpet, wear rain coat while driving.
Option 2. Sell Defender, buy anything else.

I had the same leak on my drivers door. It was the seal under the rubber strip in the upper corner. I removed the rubber door seal, then removed the crappy seam sealer in corner and redid with dum dum strips and black duct tape so it looks the same. no leak today in Socal for me.

I replaced all weather stripping on both doors but still leaks! I can't even drive mine right now cuz everything is so wet! It's messing with the electical of the d90 and I'm gonna get a car cover for it to keep it dry.. I need to look into that dumdum seal!

#1 for me. The snow coming in at speed through the gap the soft top leaves at the corner of the windshield can be irritating too, but a glove stuffed in there keeps it out just fine. Flip flops avoid any issues getting shoes wet. :grin

I guess I am starting to learn all the nuances of Defender ownership.

Mine is the Door seal at the corner like Barry had (Process 2.5 in the manual).

Where can I get the dum dum strips?

It is 3m strip caulk. do a google search

You forgot "drill a hole in the floor to allow the water to drain out."

I recently ordered new door rubber seals for the bottom doors (Part: MWC6130, see attached pic) and I noticed that they are different than the ones currently installed. I have thinner 3M seals and these new ones have a lip with holes in it. It appears that they are supposed to be riveted into the doors but the holes don't match up with the holes on the door bottoms. I looks in the NAS parts manual and this is the part specified there. I suppose I can just cut new holes in the door seal? What does your bottom door seal look like?

I usually keep the rubber mats pulled out of the car - water on the bar metal floor dries much quicker.

I have often wondered about building some 1/4" dam out of something about 3" in from the door jamb on the floor. It seems like if I could just keep the water at the edge of the floor - it would drain out. The door jambs leak as much out of the truck as the window tops do into the truck..........

It might mean that the whole floor does not get wet - just the outer edge?

Anyone done that?

i ended up doing this.
1) Buy SW doors (roll up windows) from safari rover. paint, etc (huge improvement here, and the roll up window makes a massive difference in general comfort)
2) bought a badger II top with the Gutter kit 3)
3) did everything in the water ingress manual for the pillars, and foot box.

door and most other leaks are gone :) its not 100% dry but call it 95%. it did pretty good this week in the mountians with 2 people in the back it was livable (20"+ inches of snow and then rain in the lowlands where we live)

Spendy though (figure 2K for the doors, and 3K for the top)

- the stock best top does not seal very well - you can pick up some gains by realigning the top (try it several ways L/R and see if that helps)

I have SW (roll up window) doors. Is the door bottom rubber seal supposed to be pop riveted into those? That's what the parts manual says, just curious what other NAS SW D90 owners have on the bottom of their doors.
