Seems to come up when someone is responding to an item for sale.
Even tried an Internet slang dictionary - but no listing.

It means the person will take it. I think it refers to the act of licking something so no one else will want it. My brother and I did it with cookies.

Here in the UK, if something has "been licked" then it's done, sorted, finished.
"I've licked that job of changing my clutch"
Obviously Neil will have a slightly different angle on this one.... pics needed!!! :grin

I believe I am the one that started it. I need to locate that thread. But think of it as a plate full of cookies. If I lick one or all of them, you won't want them!

It was a response to my calling dibs on something. I think it is genius and I believe I saw it on another forum once or twice. Jonathan that is by far your greatest contribution to this list :)

Yeah, it was a joke that started here, I think from a typo. It's our local way of calling dibs, but exact licking etiquette remains un-agreed upon. Licking should be rapidly followed-up, lest someone with a bigger sloppier tongue come along.

no typo, see the thread I linked to. It started when Jonathan got all bent out of shape that I called dibs on a winch Tom posted for sale. I thought I was first in line but Jonathan had already PM'ed the night before. While slightly ruffled by the affair I stand by licking as an acquisition tool.

There was VW commercial where a guy licks a jetta's door handle to claim it at the car lot.

I'm still waiting to see what Neil's interpretation of this post will result in.

From what I know, the term "licked" is a shortened form of "kitten licked" and refers to an item that has been modified, tweaked, improved, etc. It's basically equivalent to "modded".

Here it means that you want the item... Like when you licked a cookie, so your sister would not eat it.

Scott- beware, don't mention sister, cookies, licked in the same thread before Neil responds....

Good point... But, we do live in the South... Why go down the street, if you can go across the hall...

It has been around for a while. Main-stream too. Remember the ad for Volkswagon when a couple was trying to by a white Jetta but the guy standing next to it licked the door handle? That was years ago and even then it was old. I still like it, though. I used to lick my pop-tarts so my brother wouldn't take them--that was 30 years ago.

I'd like to add that the rule should be that you cannot "lick" an item unless you are willing to purchase at the price at which the seller has listed the item; don't lick and then try to negotiate/haggle a lower price via PM or e-mail.
Definitely unfair to a seller, as well as other potential buyers.

grey area. seller doesn't have to accept the offer. what if it says "obo" in the ad? stop trying to make rules. Just the check the classifieds more often.

I don't think it's possible for me to check the classifieds more often.
Didn't really mean "rule" but rather "understanding". Licked isn't a rule either, but more of a tool that is frequently used.
DB, everything is grey area until parameters are set. A seller shouldn't have to continually update a for sale thread with "still available" or whatever, after someone has licked and then have to answer shy it's back on the market; I for one usually see licked as the item is off the market and funds are being sent for the amount I just saw.

there are so many factors involved. its really not that simple. for instance, unlike in cookies, one can always unlick.
Wolf Fabrication

I hereby perma-lick everything, including all future items in the classified section and will, by my discretion, unlick or delick an item when it has been determined whether I actually need said item or can mark up the price for sale to evilfij.

Horsey, this has to be a joke, right? What are we in 5th grade? If you get it, you get it. If you don't, you don't.
Don't worry about buying up all the accessories here. Concentrate on tires and oil cooler lines.

plenty of people have complained about the same exact thing. All I did was place it in the correct thread.
Does "I'll take it" mean I'll take it if you drop your price $100? Don't be an idiot, Brian.

Me, an idiot, Horsey? Come on, man, don't be a cry baby. There is nothing that says you can't claim first crack at something and then make an offer. For example, maybe not every seller knows the going rate for a part and it doesn't hurt to ask him/her to come down on the price. Just as it was said above, the seller can refuse any offer.
Now go lick Barry's balls.

Brian,
I would prefer to be Pm'd about my balls before I agree to let anyone lick them

It looks like Clarence (Cred) is on a selling spree tonight, so I'm licking everything he's selling tonight (with the exception of one rim which I have allocated to Roving Beetle), and will unlick them in the morning as I see fit.
Oh, and none of it will be bought for the amount he has offered them for sale.
...sort of like calling shotgun before seeing the car, except you're going to have to sit in the back seat behind me, and I only sit with my seat all the way back.

Barry's selling his balls?
are his balls detachable and since he's not using them anyway decided to get rid of them?
or were they recently removed by his wife who is now forcing the sale?
did Barry have a mistress she found out about and now insists on the balls being sold off?
and why is Brian interested in said balls? Are his balls somehow defective?
or does he collect balls?
:confused
I'm happy with my balls so I'm not interested, but this is one of the most unique things to come up for sale here
If Barry has no balls is he going to have to sell his D90 next?
