Any idea the condition? Does it happen to have disc brakes (I know, a long shot).

I have a Disco rear axle now and am upgrading to 24 spline shafts. I just ordered some ARBs, but now am thinking maybe I should put in the correct axle.

How strong is a stock Salisbury compared to a Disco rear axle with HD 24 spline shafts?

Shafts are the same strength with 24 spline

The ring and pinion are stronger on the sals since they are pretty much the same as a Dana 60

Sals is able to be built to a higher level than the standard rover diff since you can bore it out and add larger 35 spline axles

gears and lockers will also be less since you can purchase Dana 60 stuff

Contact Keith at Rover Tracks and he can give you all of the options

To build a proper salisbury (IMHO) you need disc brake brackets ($100X2) and I would suggest new shafts and drive flanges (~$400) (you can mill down the brackets and use the factory shafts) and, if you mill down, RRC non-ABS hubs or if you use new shafts, ABS hubs, stub axles etc.

Then you need standard pads, rotors and calipers.

So, it is not a cheap proposition. OTOH, the Detroit is fairly inexpensive for a sals.

Drum brakes. All disco axles already have 24 splines....what you talking bout Willis ?

Maybe US Discos starting in 1994 were 24 spline. My '92 UK Disco axles are 10 spline.

Mid 1993 was the cut off from 10-24.

BTW does your disco axle have ABS? if not, the ABS 24 spline axles might not fit.

Nope, no ABS for me!

You need to find out if you have ABS style hubs or not.

Actually, just toss the whole axle and go salisbury. Or toss it and go with a donor 94 and up RRC/D90/D1 axle.
