Just wanted to put this out there...I wont have time to complete this project so it is up for grabs. It's just a feeler since I won't be around to deal with a sale until Oct. So if that time frame works for someone let's talk.
The truck is titled as a 1988 - I know this does not make sense but it is a clear Texas title and I'm the second person it has been issued to with no issues. It is fully insured with Progressive and they say the VIN & year are legit. The previouse owner was a English citizen living & working in the US - don't know if this made it easy for him to title the truck.
The Good
The truck is in good condition
Body is straight no dents
Paint is new and is in good condition
The inside is fully Rhino lined
The rest of the inside dash etc.. are in great condition
New model doors
No rust on the frame or bulk head
Rear crossmember is bad but I'm including a new one from RN
New clutch
Tires are good
Has a 2" lift
Shocks are new Blisten
The Bad
The engine has a lot of blowby 2.5td
No issues with the transmission shifts perfect and smooth
The glowplugs are not working
It starts fine and runs great no smoke
When you stop after running for a while it pours oil from the air cleaner box
basicaly it's blowing oil up though the beather and it's collecting in the canister then leaking out
Everything else under the hood is in great condition - no other issues
The seats need to be recovered
This truck would make a great project for someone who is more mechanicly inclined than myself and could do the work on it.
I have $9,000 into it and would like to get as close to that as possible so please no crazy offers. If there is no interest I will take my time and finish it eventually.
Please contact with any questions or to see more photos.
Thanks
James

So, 1988 engine, 1988 bulkhead, 1988 roof, 1988 dash, 1988 decals, 1988 title, does it at least have a 1984 VIN? Does it have "papers?"
Just trying to make some sense out of it all.
The truck is titled as a 1988 - I know this does not make sense

So what if it has a title - that doesn't mean much of anything. If it's a 1988, 1988 VIN and 1988 title..... does it have a Federal Gov. import stamp/sticker? THAT is the important question.
Not trying to bash the sale - but I'd hate to see someone get burned.
Title and registration are easy to obtain, obtaining correctly is another thing.

Interesting that you think it's "easy" to get a truck into port, past US customs, past the Texas DOT theft & safety inspection to get a title and registration. Have you ever imported a vehicle? I would guess not.
I don't know how the truck got into the country but it did, it's been here for years and it has a clear title. The VIN is good as well and comes up as a 1984 with the insurance company - maybe the 88 is a mistake with the DMV. The original post is clear so leave people to make their own decisions. I'm sure 99% of people on this site have the ability to make an educated decision on weather or not they are interested.
Try to sell your car without a title and then tell me how unimportant it is.
If you have something to say send a PM - I didn't shit all over your Disco sale. BTW did you get DOT approval for your diesel conversion?

For what its worth- I purchased a truck from James and would like to add that he's an honest guy. He was straightforward regarding the vehicle faults and kept his word.

Sorry to come across as shitting on your post - that was not my intent. I have been burned by odd ball grey market vehicles and VIN issues in the past. NOT that this one is that way, it may well not be. In NO WAY was I, or am I judging you as a seller - just cringe when i see variations in VIN/Year as it's bitten me in the ass in the past.
I have imported vehicles (I wasn't stating it was easy to do), and have also seen cars get taken that were titled in the past. I buy and sell a lot of vehicles every year (I am a dealer) and I am simply going on what you wrote about not knowing how it really got titled or is here but it is....... In the original post you made NO mention of a 1984 VIN so my question of it having a Fed stamp as a 1988 was a legit one and NOT bashing.
It *is* easy all things relative on a State level to obtain a title and registration.
Chances are it is actually a 1984 and the 1988 is a misprint. To clear it up you should have the title reissued to match the VIN/Year, not a hard process in Maine anyway, not sure about in Colorado.
As to my diesel conversion - it was sold as an off road only, as-is, custom & not road worthy vehicle. What the dealer who bought it did after they owned it was up to them. In fact I recall it being quite out in the open either here or on another forum that it was a large "grey area" that was actually pretty black and white.
Good luck with the sale, its a nice little truck! :)

Hehe, when they were here last with Brutus I know they conspired with Cvc to convince me we need a 110. Of course all I had to do was get in it and I wanted one. :)

Speaking of having lots of defenders..... were probably not going to sell this one anymore. It is in Denver and since we have returned home it's been giving me this look, like it really needs to go to the jungle.
We will be fixing the engine over the next month or so.
