Hey all, Ken was on his way to NH when his T-case broke about 5 miles from Paramus NJ. Well his 90 is sitting at Rover specialist waiting to be repaired. He rented a car and he is on vacation until Tuesday or Wednesday. If his 90 is done then he will pick it up. If not he has to drive back home with the rental until it is done.

Jorge, Thanks for the offer. I'm still waiting to hear back from Vinnie on the extent of the damage. You can imagine the many thoughts going through my mind and none of them are cheap. Whenever I have to come back up to pick up the truck, I maybe calling you, Randy or Pete for some help.

If you're on 17N, just south of the Saddle River exit as you are approaching the crest of the hill, you'll see two skid marks that veer off to the shoulder. Thems mine!

We missed you Ken. Had some fun moments after meeting up wtih you. It was really hard to keep Jimmy off the side camber climbs. He really likes to lean the truck over.... :)

Edit: Jimmy, let me know if you need that filter housing. I'll grab it at the shop this weekend and send it to you.

It was quite nice. Still getting used to driving it. On the trail, the only situation I seemed to have trouble is when trying to bump up certain ledges. The tdi takes a bit longer to build the omph one needs to get enough momentum to carry yourself up a difficult spot. Just means I need slightly more runway and a little fancy footwork using the brake and gas peddle to build the RPM's. I got some slight cavitation in the body at very low speed and gearing (1st low) when coming into steep downhills. But other than that, I couldn't be happier.

Hey Randy, I got to watch first hand as Dave drove his new engine. Very nice, I think the only draw back was trying to bounce over things. With the tdi and the auto there is too much rev up to get a momentum going quick from a dead start. If Dave was climbing something steep, was 1/2 way up on a climb and not moving and we wanted him to just give it some more to get it to bounce over it was a little hard to get it to happen (kinda like when George lets off the gas, you need to wait for the super charger to slow down before it will slow the 90 down but just the opposite I really like to blame it all on the Auto as with a clutch you have more control). Although this may be a learning curve thing as it was the first time out on the trail. It had NO problem on any hills on the highway with Daves loaded down 90. It sounded very cool! You have to love the turbo winding up! With the auto he was on the breaks a bit as the tdi just wants to keep going. If anyone has power concerns for this engine I think they need to find something else to worry about. I would really like to see one on the trail now with a manual tranns behind it, just to see the difference.

Mike, I think it was a learning curve thing. That and I'm a bit rusty having not been on a trail since Feb. :)
I was getting better by the end of the day holding the brakes and building the RPM's up just enough to get me some juice.

Your right, I forgot about the idle. At idle and in low gear, the truck will push itself uphill without even being on the gas. Great for uphill. Kind of interesting downhill. I may spend more time in neutral on downhills now than in gear.

EDIT:

I must admit. I was having a bit of fun throughout the day when we were on the road. Stepping on it and taking off. I just wanted to make sure I still had it over the 3.9 manual.... :cool:

had a good day wheeling but need to do it again as Mike came with no truck and Ken broke down on the way
Mike as for the manual deisel its awesome only trouble with long steep slopes you need a good run up in low 3rd to keep the momentum 1st and 2nd is too low and your wheels start to spin

Dave, I thought you were haveing a little bit of fun on the road. I wasn't too sure that I would like the sound of a TDi but once I heard you take off I was sold!

RandyHey Randy, If you don't mind, when they do find what is wrong do you think you could ost a pic of the damage? I am wondering if something came loose, broke, or if there is any discoloration from over heating.
