I ahve 1997 Defender, stock radio. Code card says:

CODE: 39 + "CHECK DIGIT"

There is no "9", and there's only room to type in 4 digits, so I "checked digit" below and there's a "4245".

However, when I type in the "4245" it just displays ---- again and the radio is still dead.

Clues/hints requested. Thanks!

i had to enter my code in my radio when i put in an Optima I had no problems. maybe dissconnect your batt and try again. if that doesnt work the stealership has the code. At worst that might not be the factory head unit, and need a diff code than the one youhave. good luck. it may take a few tries.

Thanks for the thoughts, but this is factory, and the correct code card. It has been used before; just something now happening right this time.

You might check your owners manual...in the disco 1 if you enter the wrong radio code more than 3 times you have to leave the radio on for an hour!! Go figure. I had to park mine in the drive way with the key on and the radio coded, but after an hour I tried it again and it worked.

Wicks-

Are you using the correct code? If you have had your rover worked on at the dealer, the radio code is sometimes printed on the top of the service invoice.

Good Luck

I have a dumb question. Just purchased a '97 D-90 and the radio does not work. The old owner said he could not get the code to accept. He gave me the code "5108". How do I input the "0" and the "8"? the keys are only 1-6?

By the way, love the truck! Wife thinks I'm nuts.

When I couldnt figure out the correct code on the Disco, I pulled the radio and it was written on the top of it. Its worth a shot. Even if the dealer gave you the code, it might not be the original radio.
