I am thinking of getting my TD5 engine chipped to get more out of my car. I hear there is a lot of potential in the TD5 that is hidden, however, should i trust this or not. Has anyone had the chip installed and does it make a big difference? and will it cause problems for me in the future. I am worried about adding to much on the engine and cutting its life short. I bought this car from new and am trying to take care of it as much as possible. Any feedback would help. thanks :confused

I know a few folks who chipped them, and had no problems. Certainly are a lot quicker. I'm concidering it but have not done so yet.

The big question is, who's chip?

I'm going to Billings tomorrow and will be investigating. If I find out anything usefull, I'll update this thread.

If you chip it, do you have to pull the ECU and mail it in?

Depends on the chip company. I got chipped by "twisted performance" and went for a 170 bhp option, which is their standard chip + K&N. The chip is in a small box of electronics that now lives under the seat beside the ecu, and has about 8 or 9 wires scotch locked to the existing loom. installed in about 10 minutes, and has a multi-connector on it's harness so you can temporerally remove it if you want.

and yes, it made a difference. I was towing a trailler with a tomcat on it, and had a new roof tent installed and it still went up hills at 60mph no worries. On the flat ground I could run at 55 mph at about 1900 rpm with the overdrive switched on, and my foot only barely on the pedal. :-)

Once I dump the trailler and roof tent, I'll report on the performance.

I have chipped, intercooled, exhausted and air-intaked my TD5 and its by far the fasted D90 in town (also lost ~200lbs)...

I'd go first with a larger intercooler, then the chip and the exhaust/air filter to match...

GREAT difference, got the piggy back one as well (PSI Chips) - I've set it to the max setting and am enjoying every second...

Not related to a chip, but I would not buy anything from Twisted Performance. Just an FYI.

Didn't want to bring it up, but I concur 100% with David, twisted Performance played me for a fool for a good 2-3 months, they lie. Period.

If i had a Td5 and the money, I'd do it.

Matzker has various chipping/tuning options. Max. is 201bhp and 400 nm torque
And they know what they're doing. These guys finished as 35st at the 2005 dakar rallye w. their Defender 90Td5.

These are al chips for the TD% as far as I can tell. How about the 4.0 L V8? Any of you have any info on chips for this engine? I have seen the RPI chips and they are too $$$$$.
