The pivot point at the chassis bracket. Can someone tell me why when I replaced the circlip and washer (genuine)it wont stay on when I pull up on the hand brake to engage the tranny brake. About to take the BFG to it. And yes the circlip is in the groove.

My bet is that the groove in the pivot shaft is worn/corroded, causing the circlip to pop out if it sees any axial load at all. Take a piece of safety wire and wire the clip together using the small holes in the ends. If this solves your problem, you most likely need a new shaft (if the groove is damaged) or the circlip was bent at installation.

Thats what I was afraid of. The only reason Im having this problem is cause I was like "Oh look at that I am missing a washer with only the circlip holding everything in place, let me fix that" (Rover gods laughing)

Tie up loose ends as it were. Of course it was something dumb simple to fix. The curve in the vertical rod which I thought was suppose to be orientated front to back is actually left to right because the brake linkage at the chassis is slightly offset from the handbrake lever itself. SSSSooooooooo damn simple of a fix.
