Looks perfect as-is! What are you going to do to it?

All 4 doors are completely gone... Gonna need a frame swap eventually...
Probably a new roof... gonna have to look at that one to make sure...

Is the 300 in good shape?
Looks like a project! Whether it's fun or not, I guess time will tell. :proud

Dude, totally awesome. Subscribe! I would totally drive that until it falls apart. I made the mistake of rebuilding mine as soon as I got it and it's been almost 2 years now and I have driven it a total of like 50 miles.

Ok, so outline your plan and a timeline. I'm like Forrest - I'd just drive it for a while before tearing into it. Or is this going to be a rolling restoration? But I guess it depends on what you are going to do with it - it's looks ready to go wheeling with, not a grocery getter.
TravelerBT
January 5th, 2011, 09:03 AM
Rolling restoration for sure...
First is the doors. Gotta get those fixed for our Colorado winters...
After that will probably be the roof... whether or not I replace it is still up for grabs...
Then I will probably drive it for a while... get some money saved up for the frame swap... then onto the body work most likely... fun fun :)

Oh... and first thing will be to get a spare tire and carrier... :) Forgot to mention that one ... and kinda important

I will be flying to Nashville on Friday, Jan 7th and driving back to Colorado from there... so HONK if you see me on the road :)

I got to drive this truck when it was in VA and I couldn't believe the power the TDI had. 70mph on route 15 going uphill blew me away.

Is the bed of a 110 crew cab bigger than the bed of a 90 pickup?

Just too damn cold in colorado right now... got down to -14 last night here... doors are frozen shut, Bonnet is frozen shut, and now I am leaking coolant... not a good sign... :( Guess I might be doing the radiator here :(

This cold snap here in colorado has just totally f*cked my truck up... got down to -18 last night, and now all my hoses have frozen and I am leaking coolant all over the place. Radiator is leaking now as well... DAMNIT

January 12th, 2011, 12:36 PM
Sounds like your coolant needed to be replaced :(
Hopefully it is just a few hoses, radiator or a freeze plug and not the block
TravelerBT
January 12th, 2011, 12:48 PM
definitely just the hoses... it just started for me :) gonna get it in the garage tonight for sure, that should help immensely

Hey Guy (Phil),
Thanks to you too. It is a pleasure to sell to someone who loves Rovers. This one is a great example of a truck that needs some TLC, but can be a great vehicle with some work.
I am glad you are enjoying it. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Ok, NOW it is time to BASH...
I had shipped ALL of my doors using Saia to Andy at Rover Racks in Florida.
Saia LOST the shipment AND denied my claim saying their liability is only 10 cents per pound because the doors were used.
FUCK THAT SHIT
Anyone ever dealt with a situation like this ??? Now I am out 4 doors that will cost me thousands to replace AND I don't have any doors on my truck.
I want to pursue legal action against them... If anyone has any suggestions as to a course of action I would greatly appreciate it.
I would suggest that if you are shipping ANYTHING freight... don't use Saia... assholes...

Man, that's the worst. Were they not insured or something? Sounds odd.

update - Got a set of front doors on the truck... NTO's but no middle doors in sight... a little hard to come by :) And I am in the process of suing Saia, but who knows when that will come through... if anyone has some junk middle doors they would like to "donate" so that I can at least drive this sucked this winter... I would be eternally grateful :)
Pictures to come... not all that exciting :)

She sure is, and unless it was an offer extended just to me, at a very reasonable price too!
Although I recommend buying her in general, I'm not sure how this would help Philip. Here middle doors are in rough shape and the second pair she now has are so-so afaik.
Contact James if interested or email me and I can dig up his info. He should be coming back from overseas deployment soon, if he hasn't already.

I just got an email that the doors that I shipped almost a YEAR ago... were just now delivered!? Although Andy said he doesn't have them... maybe they have been sent to the wrong address?!?!? oh man... this would be the best christmas present ever :)
Better late then never I suppose :)
More to come ... calling Saia now... stay tuned :)

So... 2 years ago SAIA lost my doors... I just NOW found replacements and got them installed.
Just a very small bit of fab work here... some capture nut plates... (Thanks to John Putnins for facilitating the welder... :O))

Did you ever get any money from SAIA?
Negative... they told me that because they were labeled as "salvaged doors" , that they were liable only for 10 cents per lb... which equated to about $30...
Tried to get MY insurance to cover... they said because they were not attached to the car, no go...
tried to get MY homeowners to cover... no go...
basically I was just screwed.

I used to work in shipping/receiving. Sounds to me that someone at SAIA found out exactly what was inside the package and "lost" it. Someone is rolling around with your doors....
Sorry for that little episode. A good set of doors can get pricey, and sadly Ill need to replace mine soon too. :angry
Are your new doors aluminum skinned? what about the frames? happy with them?
Love your truck, its looking great! Im thinking about 35's too....

I don't know. These doors were pretty rusty. I don't think they were worth fixing or stealing. Who know
