Hello from Europe ( the Netherlands)
Just finished this original LHD 1985 110 Defender. It has the 3.5V8 engine and a brand new gearbox.
The car was stripped to bare shell, all glass , interior and lights removed, and fully repainted in Cream colour with a Black top and fitted with the new PUMA type hood. Superb original 1985 chassis with no rot. It has the proper 1985 ribbed roof panel and the square sliding windows. Build up using all new window seals, sliding window runners, door seals, hinge gaskets, stainless steel bolt kit. Fitted crystal clear SVX headlights, SVX type grill and headlight surrounds, SVX type taillights. 5 Black powdercoated alloy wheels with new 235/85/16 tyres. New exhaust, new springs.
The interior is from a 2006 110 SE in half leather with 2 front seats, 40/60 rear seat and the 4 individual jump seats in the load area. New black carpets front to rear incl heavy duty rubber load mat. Brand new original LR headlining.
The car has done 1500 test miles since finished last december and is now for sale for $ 37,500 delivered to West Chester PA, clear PA title ( all you need to pay is the 2.5 % import duties) and includes ocean freight from the Netherlands to Baltimore by RORO.
Thanks for looking, many more pictures available, please call me on 011-31-575-433166 or email me at riverhouse@planet.nl

nice truck, but why do all that work and not convert to tdi and not make into a 5 door soft top?
rivermike
January 13th, 2011, 01:56 AM
Hey Julian, well, as many people have stated here before, when importing the truck into the US it must have the original engine. You should know this ....
About the soft top conversion, it is just a matter of taste.... but I agree, the next one I will be doing might be a 4 -door soft-top maybe even with a new 300 tdi and automatic gearbox
thanks, rivermike

For what it's worth my 110 was done up by Mike before it made it's way to the states (and 2 owners before me) and I've been very happy with it. Especially the LHD, tdi, and A/C : ). If anyone wants to take a peek at mine just let me know.
Also Mike I still owe you a phone call after we traded emails awhile back in December. Admittedly we had our first child last year and family/work has been keeping me fairly busy. But I'll get around to it one of these days...

Truck looks nice. What type of mat is the bed? Did you paint the tub sides or is that a mat too?

Bet that black roof gets mighty hot

Thanks for all the kind words ! The load area mat is a extra heavy duty one used by the M.O.D. in the UK. The sides of the rear tub have been carpeted with black carpet, the complete interior has been repainted in LR Cornish Cream.

rivermike
January 13th, 2011, 12:42 PM

Can you not switch between high and low in these trucks? I don't see the transfer case shifter

It's there, it's just mounted to the seatbox. It's lined up with the e-brake in the pic.

Yes, you can ! It is just mounted in a different place, on the front of the seatbase, next to the handbrake.
It is obvious most of the trucks you guys see in the US are re-vins. More than 70 % of all the 1983 to 1986 110's wery build as 3.5 litre V8 with 4 speed gearbox and all have the hi/lo gearstick mounted on the seatbase as opposed to the centre tunnel.

Well most people see NAS trucks not reVINs. All NAS trucks have the shifter next to the transmission shifter

why would anyone want a 5 door soft top? Nice looking truck, with a reasonable price.

Dude, I'd totally want a 5-door ST...nothing better than running the Series topless all summer, and with the 5-door there's actually room for the whole village...

Thats quite a statement.
So you are saying the 2.25 petrols, 2.5 petrols, 2.25 diesel and 2.5 diesels that all came with Lt77's and lt230's starting in 1983 account for less than 30% of 90/110/and 127 production from 83-86 ? You assert that 70+% of everything made during those years has the lt95 gear box ? Didn't the lt85/lt230 begin replacing the lt95 behind v8's as a 5spd option in 1984 ?

That's a similar conclusion I came to. I look at defenders for sale in the UK constantly and the 3.5 V8s and even the smaller petrol engines seem to be in short supply compared to the 2.5N/A and 2.5TD for those years.

That's a huge leap of logic, and a less than subtle dig at those over here that are engaged in the sale of Defenders. Interesting comment, especially from one who has sent more than few vehicles meeting that very same description to these shores.
Like most EU vendors your knowledge of the NA LR scene is limited to what your customers ask for and what you see on a few forums.
Nice truck, good luck with the sale. I would get rid of the black roof too, news flash, it gets hot over here...

not much on black roofs, ascetically not my cup of tea, and not very functional when the sun is out. there seems to a trend to silver and black in defenders, i noticed though.

Why would it be any different than an all Black 110?

it wouldn't.

Or a 90 SW with a black canvas top? And why the heck is everyone focusing on the top color? Bottom line it's a damn nice looking (LHD!) truck with a decent price...if you ask me.
And I - for one - am jealous of that Exmoor interior. Makes me think I need an upgrade on my seats.

The whole truck looks pretty nice, I like the SVX grill, interior and the color combo is sweet. Good luck with the sale!

There seems to be quite a bit of misunderstanding about my words on this forum. Most of the LHD 110 Defenders from 1983 to 1986 ordered for Europe were fitted with a 3.5 V8 engine and had the 4 speed gearbox. It could well be that in the UK there are plenty of 2.25 , 2.5 petrol or diesels to be found, but on the Continent most of the models that sold were fitted with the V8 gas engine.
I was surprised by the question about the hi-lo gearing, never meant to offend anyone... I am pretty sure we see a lot more original 1983-1986 Defenders here than there are in the States.
As for the people who don't like the black roof, colours are a matter of taste. In all honesty I must admit, it might get hot in summer but not only from the black roof, more likely to get hot caused by sitting on top of that gearbox... with some flimsy alloy panelling around it.
But hey, who cares ... you ride in style ...... if you want something more comfortable buy a new Landcruiser or a Lexus...
