Hey guys,

Just got my 110 and I need to get rid of the 90 or my wife is going to kill me :)

So, it is time...

AC installed
new Hard top By Rover Racks, painted to match (the original color... which I had wanted to get the body repainted to)
stainless brake lines
New clutch
all new hoses

Also has a soft top (NEEDS REPAIR!), half top and 4 steel wheels included. I also have the stock brush guard with 2 hela lights on it... included as well.

You guys know how much those AC kits and that hard top costs, so I think the price is reasonable...

GIVE IT A GOOD HOME! :) PLEASE :)

I still am confused about your painting of the hard top. The paint on the truck looks good. Did it fade over time? I feel likethat color represents the alres blue better than the top.

TravelerBT
January 17th, 2011, 03:33 PM
the top is actually the correctly Arles Blue color... the bottom is the original paint and for some reason as gotten darker... don't ask me :)

Phil,

Are you willing to part out the steel wheels? If they are NAS110/1 Ton wheels I am interested.

Great looking D90 Best of Luck selling it! I have a 94 arles blue as well and painting the fiberglass hardtop is one of the projects that is on the list for this winter. You really did a great job with it. Do you mind if I PM you and pick your brain about how you did it? I don't want to lead the post in a different direction and awaay from your efforts of selling the D90.

BTW the 110 looks incredible.

Also, the transfer case does leak a bit... AND, what seems to be a big hang up is that it IS a salvage title. When I bought the vehicle, I had my mechanic go over the whole thing top to bottom, and he said he couldn't see why it was salvaged...

Right on! I had never seen the pics of the repair work! that rocks!

I honestly didn't think that the salvage title was that big of deal... but apparently it is, so i apologize for not mentioning it earlier... sorry if anyone felt misled...

Also, I was able to get financing for this vehicle no problem/no questions asked in like 10 min through USAA... somebody mentioned that in the linked thread above...

Thanks for finding that thread... very cool...

I just spent a couple of minutes searching for information on operating Salvaged vehicles in NJ (my home state). It seems that one would need to have a "salvage inspection" done:

Rebuilt Auto Titles and Other Requirements

After receiving the salvage title (http://motorvehicles.org/new-jersey/salvaged-title), you're almost ready to legally operate your rebuilt auto (http://motorvehicles.org/new-jersey/vehicle-operation). But before you can, the vehicle must pass a New Jersey salvage inspection. Before making an inspection appointment, however, you'll need to gather the following:

Photos

You'll need before and after repair photos. These photos must meet the following requirements:

Photos must be in color.
Photos must be clear.
The vehicle must be clean and clear of debris or snow.
The photos cannot cut off any part of the vehicle.
Photo quality paper required if photos are self-printed.
Polaroid photos are acceptable.
Photos must be standard size or larger.
At least one photo (before and after) of the entire front and left side of the vehicle.
At least one photo (before and after) of the entire rear and right side of the vehicle.
If you don't have before repair photos, contact the previous owner. If no such photos exist, substitute with a damage report from your insurance company.

Bill of Sale

You will need a bill of sale for each major component* part used to rebuild or repair the vehicle. Each bill of sale must include the name and address of the buyer and seller, the date of purchase and the price of the auto part.

If new parts are used, include on the bill of sale a description of the part and the part number.

If used parts are used, include on the bill of sale:

The date the part was dismantled or removed, if applicable.
A description of the part.
The name and address of the person or business that removed the auto part.
The year, make, model, and VIN from the vehicle the part was taken from. If a VIN is not available, you must provide a statement from the seller explaining its absence.
* For clarity sake, the following are considered major components:

Engine
Transmission
Each fender
Back bumper
Front bumper
Cowl
Frame
Hood or engine cover
Each quarter panel
Each door
Decklid, tailgate, hatchback
Shock tower or apron
Roof
Assembled items include:

Front clip (cowl, frame section, shock and apron structure)
Rear clip (rear sheet metal, roof, frame section)
Short clip (rear clip without roof)
Nose (fenders, hood, bumper, radiator support)
Salvage Inspection Application (form OS/SS-3)

Complete this form. Mail it, along with a check or money order made payable to "NJMVC" for $200, to:

NJ MVC
225 E. State St.
P.O. Box 017
Trenton, NJ 08666-0017

I have to imagine that in many other states the process would be less involved. NJ is generally on the more bureaucratic end of the spectrum. This truck sure looks nice, and as stated already it's a shame about that title.

No worries. I don't think anyone felt misled. I will say though this goes to my belief your hardtop was not painted alres blue. If the paint on your truck is only 4 years old. I don't think it is that faded. The hard top looks totally off.

Pretty sure only the tub was repainted, as the bonnet, and the wing tops have all the signs of 15 year old paint... I wax it every couple of months, and the color comes back and matches the tub... so maybe they painted the tub to match the rest?? Who knows... You may be right though... I asked andy to paint the top Arles Blue, and that is what I got. I was going to have the rest of the truck painted to match the top... in retrospect... should have done the opposite :)

and HOLY SHIT... what a pain in the ASS to get a salvage vehicle in NJ!?!?! Colorado... I just went down and registered it just like any other vehicle... WOW

I am starting to get scared I am not going to be ABLE to sell this truck outside of Colorado!! :( Crazy laws I tell you... crazy...

I am sure it will sell. The price is decent but you may have to drop it unless you find a person who doesnt care at all about the title. I remember it being for sale for awhile but it obviously sold wihtout regrets by the buyer so just wait for the right person

alastair
February 3rd, 2011, 01:18 PM
Yeah, NJ seems to be the exception rather than the rule. I think this will be a great buy for the right buyer. As a side note, I'll be in Denver / Parker / Breckenridge at the beginning of April and could "deliver" it back east ;)

Maybe it was a theft recovery.

Some insurance companies automatically 'total' a no damage theft recovery (ie: keys left in ignition-someone got in and drove it away) to mitigate the possibility of any future liability.

Has to be the damage not a theft as it looks like the frame was tweaked. At the very least enough damage for the tub to be replaced

When all that Carfax stuff is said and done, it's still going to be MUCH easier for an out of state buyer to A) re-title and register and B) get a loan (if needed). I'd certainly consider buying this truck (if it hasn't sold by March when I planned to start shopping).

------------------------follow up----------------------------------------------------------------------------

so the question is this... is the carfax wrong? Or my Title wrong?

It doesn't have to be either. It makes sense that the car would have a salvaged title on carfax, given its rebuild. And Colorado must have their own standards when it comes to re-built and salvaged titles...

Dont you have to sell the vehicle as a salvage now that you know its history, no?

this is interesting... the salvage title was in OK, but in OK, a salvage title is issued for a stolen vehicle???

Salvage Title A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following eleven states also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OK and OR.

NoVaKevin
February 8th, 2011, 03:04 PM
Theres several reasons they would issue a salvage title. None of which mention human error at the DMV. Everyone at the DMV, at least in Virginia, has at least an undergraduate degree from Harvard. They are very smarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt and never make mistakes.

my feelings about this, as a prospective buyer, are as follows: I'd have no qualms buying this truck as long as the truck has been well maintained, there are records to support that and it's in the hands of an enthusiast. I think the rebuild / title is reflected within the price range the truck is being offered, given that it doesn't seem to have other (mechanical) issues. within this price range I'd be buying a truck that I expected to keep, and drive for a long time. I know a lot of people look down the road at re-sale, but by the time a Defender has dipped around the $20K mark I think the resale value is going to stabilize unless there is massive rust etc.

My issue with the title was based on how it would impact registration in my home state, not on the idea of re-sale ten years from now...

I know a lot of people look down the road at re-sale, but by the time a Defender has dipped around the $20K mark I think the resale value is going to stabilize unless there is massive rust etc.

My issue with the title was based on how it would impact registration in my home state, not on the idea of re-sale ten years from now...

AMEN ... thanks Alastair!

I remember this one. Yes, it is salvage. Luckily your title has been cleaned. For sale for a long time as someone else stated. Maybe 5-6 months? I thought it was a good size accident. Not just a fender bender. I think I offered $18k and I thought the guy eventually took less. I think 2-3 months after my offer he was looking for $16k. Good entry level truck.

You know what is funny. I think I used to see this truck all the time parked in Malibu. It disappeared before I got my 90 which falls right in line with it going to OK. Did it come with the cover that snaps on the dash and covers the whole cabin?

Congrats! I remember the day I got mine from the transporter. Very exciting day!

When you get it NY state inspected, call ahead to the inspection station to make sure their dyno is operating properly. I had to go to a few places before finding a place that maintained their equipment.

Post some pictures when you have the time!
