View Full Version : Finally, a clean wipe

Been feeling like the last guy to get the punchline lately.

I was heading up to Hyak Saturday and since it was raining I decided to stop and get new wipers in case it was worse/snowing/whatever up there. I had been pretty disappointed with my last set as they had begun to fall apart and never really worked that well to begin with.

They happened to be on sale at O'Reilley's (2 for 1) and as I popped them on in the parking lot I was really just hoping they would work better than the last set. I hop back in and take off, flip on the wipers and SHEESH- they pretty much suck. Wiping too hard at the ends and streaking in the middles. Which reminds me that the last set were ripping apart at the ends... like the ends were getting unequal pressure on them. All of a sudden I remember a thread on the board about how Defender windshields are FLAT and how most windshield glass places can cut you one, etc. etc. Now I had noticed the windshield was flat, but sometimes it takes me a while from observation to deduction.

So all of a sudden I feel a virtual dopeslap to the back of my head. I think my skull actually jerked forward from the blow. And I hear this voice say "Most wipers are designed for curved windshields you moron." So I pull into the nearest Starbucks and in about 15 seconds I'm able to bend the blade guides slightly so they hold the blade straight instead of curved. Hop back in, fip on the wipers and perfection (!), I'm psyched... until I realize I've got to post the story on the forum and everyone here will be saying "Yeah... you figured that one all out by yourself there Euclid?"

Let the mockery begin.

Does this procedure need to be done at a Starbucks?

(we have 2, but one has no parking lot)

Glad this thread wasn't what I thought it was going to be when I opened it.

Just looked at those online and the guides look to hold the blade pretty straight. I'll try 'em next time.

Ha! Doesn't _need_ to be a Starbucks, it's just hard to pull into a parking lot in Seattle that isn't one!
