My one rule. Don't trash peoples trucks listed for sale. If you want to trash horsey or used car dealers in a for sale thread though I have no issue with it, just don't mention said truck.

If someone joins just to sell a truck then they are fair game...long time members should be a different story.

seriously, he joined in 2003 only to wait for the perfect time to sell! I have quite a while to go or either I post 100s of pointless observations, somewhat relevant experience or outright crap in order not to be characterized as a poser.
Wait, I already sold one somewhere around post 40 though, so I guess this calls me out as well.
funny thing is this color is darn close to the hella blue one. No argument that there is a major difference between the two, but cut the poor guy some slack. He has likely owned it longer than the majority of members on the board.
Please, everyone, post ANYTHING you want to on the for sale sections on this board. Defender related or not it is by far the coolest classified listing on the web for both what is for sale and the banter that takes place as a result.
WKNC rules!
I believe the OP join date was 2003.

i always loved the logic that the for sale sections in forums should somehow be preferential to members.
first off, people get screwed every day by people on forums. everyone owns a car. what the hell makes someone assume because they are on a site in which two people share the same car, that the other person has a less likely hood of shamming them than someone from the aggregate population at large?
second, why chase off newbies with something to sell? if the for sale site is nice to newbs, when a non owner falls into a rig, they may be more apt to sell it it here giving YOU guys first crack at a deal, IF THEY DONT READ THREADS WHERE PEOPLE RIP ON NEWB SELLERS. fact is, anyone that visits frequently knows the regulars are cheap fuckers, and will post for sale elsewhere.
you guys should be louringthem in, not chasing them off, dingdongs.

Exactly! Let's not turn this into Dickheadweb.org

Zimm, I challenge yout to prove that it makes a difference. If people want to advertise their truck they will. If it keeps away those that want ridiculous prices, I don't see that as an issue. Besides, every Defender for sale on the internet seems to make it on here regardless of whether it is posted here or not.
To the OP, I apologize for my dickheaded response but it was too hard to resist.

Agreed, the notion that we have to rip on anyone is inappropriate. The idea that only long term members should be treated with differently is ludicrous. Every member was a newbie once and some of the members that are suggesting this have been members for some time. Despite what a handful of members of low intellect or who are sexually frustrated and frequently post on this site believe, this behavior certainly does not make a Newbie feel welcome nor does it encourage interaction or promote positive exchange.
If we don't already have a policy against trashing other members posts, perhaps we should consider one to include a 3 strikes type rule. This will help cull out those few who are responsible for driving this site to become Dickheadweb.org.

Scroll up Roland. I think I was the first one to defend this guy... As far as the fair game statement to new members it was a joke. Relax people. But since you are all worked up about it how many one time posters have told us how "rare" their defender is. If you just joined to cut and paste a copy of your ebay ad and make some ridiculous claims about the prowess and rarity of your vehicle or painted an alligator or jurassic park on the side then chances are youll get called out on it ...

Horsey,
Do you think he is talking about us?
Roland,
You just have your panties in a bunch because you got mocked for repeatedly listing the same stuff in a new ad. It happens. You learn and you won't do it again.
I think people just hate when people join just to sell stuff and list it like it is ebay. This is a site for enthusiasts so the hard sell is annoying.

John:
There needs to be a proper mechanism to address these types. Otherwise, it leads to a disruptive free for all and turns off a lot of members or potential interested members. Web sites like these are extremely useful and informative. I would hope, that we would want to encourage participation and collegiality.

As others have mentioned, leave your rude comments to yourself or go post them on the corresponding fleabay ad if it's so important that you say it at all. D-90.com is not the place for stuff like that, especially when someone's trying to sell a truck they've spent many hours working on and many hours driving.
Rich, sorry to see you needing to sell the rover you've had for the past decade. Hopefully, whatever the next car/truck is will give you another decade too. Good luck with the sale, there certainly are some very worthwhile upgrades on that rig.

So anyway, the add reads 26K then, just reduced by 9k, so is it 17K or not?! Everyone seems to have an opinon, but the guy who wrote the add....

What is wrong with you people? I just don't get it. Are you all really that miserable? Holy crap. I've owned my defender since 2000, that's 11 years. I love the truck to death and always seem to get along with other D90 owners because it's a very niche truck with very specific owners who all seem to be really cool. But what is up with you people on the forums? It's like always something negative? Why? The price is $26k - reduced from $34k. If you don't want to buy it fine, I don't care. If you don't like it, fine I don't care. Just keep you negativity to yourselves please.. thanks a bunch and go out and enjoy your toys instead of sitting home and bitching on forums :)

Holy crap. That would help explain why the engine compartment/hood are in near perfect condition yet the interior is torched. I thought maybe an aux heater malfunction or something, but wow. Did you make out alright with insurance?

Michael, it is probably too far gone... The title will be a salvage, the cage and dash are gone, so not too much available to salvage.
