With all the talk of putting in a 300tdi or the 2.8 powerstroke in rovers got me wondering. Could I stick a 7.3L powerstroke in a 90? A co worker and I have been eyeing the old engines from our ambulances. I think it would fit since its comming out of a van.

That engine is way too heavy, and too powerful for a LR tranny.

Yeah you would need some serious springs up front, and then everything behind the engine would have to be 1 ton gear, tranns, T-case, drivshafts and axles. I have heard of people running the older GM 6.2 Diesel, it only puts out like 180 HP and 400ftlbs.

It would fit in the bay. It is not that huge, I mean I have seen a 5.9 cummins in a Land Rover and that is much bigger. The issues are 1. you would need to use the trans to go with it and this would mean, in a 90 the rear drive shaft would be really short. In a 110 I am sure it could be done.

Then again, WHY! The things weighs of close to half a ton!

John Bradshaw and I were trying to think of uses for old ambulance engines. We've got a couple of retired ambulances sitting around and as some rover owners do were dreaming of more power.

Of all the vehicles I have owned sans the shelby, my F250 Crew 4x4 with a well modified PS was the most fun. It was hell on the ricer boys and nothing gets them to roll up their window faster than pulling up next to them with a modest power brake, no wheel spin but tons of smoke. It was outright fast, i am not sure anyone could beleive it unless they rode in it.
I would do it in a second if it was viable.
