O.k. I know there are probably a million threads on this topic, but I have a few specific questions.

1. If I bolt on a steering guard, do I need a front diff protector?

2. I like the QT front and rear diff protectors, Are they bolt on or will I need to weld them on. I have no welder so I am looking for bolt on only.

3. Is the ARB Bull Bar tough enough to bolt on the Dixon Bate recovery jaws?

1) Yes. While southdown makes an axle/diff guard unit, most steering guards do not extend far enough down to protect the front diff.

2) Yes. Almost all standard diff protectors are the round friction mount type (with the exception of the QT Salisbury type). I believe the QT for standard Rover diffs is bolt on, but can be welded on. Additionally, all Discovery II rear guards have to be welded, but don't quote me on that.

3) Depends on what your mean by "tough enough". You can bolt on a DB recovery point to any ARB or any other brand bumper. With proper brackets (see EE for backing plates for the DB) and so long as the bumper is bolted to the frame horns properly with grade 8 hardware the ARB will be fine.

2.Both.
Rear is bolt on.
Front is

OR
>bolt-tack weld-weld on

Mine is a later model,and,as above,needs to be tack welded in place,checked and fully welded (front).
Tabs are supplied.
Go to your local welder/fabricator and it's a snap.

3.AFAIR (had an ARB on my previous 90) I'd say no,maybe too thin metal.
Reinforcing or backplating could (could) be enough.

The QT diff protectors are friggin' awesome! I ordered them for a friend's D90 and they were installed by Dave's European here in Denver.

The rear is a direct bolt on, but the front requires some mounting tabs to be welded on, then it's bolt on:)
I know you said you didn't want a weld on, but even if you go with another manufacturer that bolts on, you should still at least have it tacked on, otherwise you will knock if off the first time you hit it (the front that is).

I just noticed while typing this reply that the install on the OKRovers website is for a Disco II. The front diff guard I received came with tabs that were welded on (to a D90 front diff), just like the ones shown in the photos. It is possible that I received the DII diff guard instead of the one made for the the D90 which (according to QT's website) just bolts on without welding the tabs on. Either way, this is the best front guard I've seen to date and it was tested a few weeks after install and did exacty what it was supposed to do.
I'd advise calling Discount British and asking if welding is required.

Thanks for all the help. I have ordered the QT's from Nathan at Discount British parts. That man has a world of answers to a million questions I gave him, thanks Nathan. I have gotten a mechanic from work that can weld them on too if need need be. I will post pics as soon as I have them on.
