View Full Version : I need a new track rod!

I need the steering linkage that comes from the pitman drop arm and crosses to the passenger side. I destroyed mine on a rock last weekend. If anyone knows of either a way to have it straightened and reinforced or sombody has an extra to sell, I could use some help. I am a broke college kid that needs my car to keep my sanity.

Stick one end part way into your reciever hitch and bend it back as close as you can, then take your high lift jack handle and sleeve the drag link. Hopefully you won't need your high lift in the near future.

LOL. I had to do this today. The high lift handle is a perfect fit! But surely your not suggesting this as a permanent fix?

Anyhow, what are recommended (stronger/reinforced) replacements in case I'd like to use my hi-lift again?

www.rovertracks.com has them. Very sturdy.

Thanks Chris - they do look sturdy.

Before I pull the trigger, does anyone have any suggestions for alternate products?

Charles for the CB factor the highlift handle is nothing but a chunk of pipe. Mine flew off in a mud pit (I don't see how i drive so careful :) ) and I replaced it with some bling bling "galvanized" pipe from home Depot, so you could just slide the pipe over the rod like you are doing with the jack handle.

mmh. well, I managed to bend the rod back roughly straight without kinking it, but I don't trust the pipe sleeve as a solution long term. Call me crazy, but I dont' really want my steering to fail, especially at high speed.

I'm a CB, but I'll cough up $100 for my life :)

LOL, OK. You may want to also chek in over on pirate, they were just talking about his I think.
