Spare tire carrier

:cool: First, let me preface this by saying I did not like the orange and as of this morning, it is black. And yes, I know that there should be an area for the high lift but I have other ideas for that. This rack is using heim joints for the swivels and has a latch at the lower left. There is a 1/4" thick steel brace that runs all the way across the rear crossmember (which is connected to the two rear corner sliders and dixon-bates) that I welded the lower heim mount as well as a angled support that the carrier uses to rest on at the lower left mount. There are no wobbles or creaks and it pivots really smooth. It took a while to design and weld and I am really happy with it--I wish I had a tube bender and I could have made it lighter, but oh well. It carries two jerry cans and uses a draw latch to lock those down--which is lockable (a padlock goes right through it).

Nice Job! It is hard to tell but does it block the rear break lights on the passenger side at all? How much were all the joints and parts? Any guess on weight? And I am guessing you don't plan on puttong bigger tires on it, as they would hit the Jerry cans?

Funny you mentioned the tire size--I intentionally sized it so that IF I wanted, I could fit 35's. I am happy with my 33.5's, but...just in case. They do not block any of the lights although I did move the license plate over a couple inches. I got the two heim joints off e-bay for about $20, the clasps were an additional $20 and the metal ran be about $45. I am into the entire thing with paint for under $100. The weight was around 60lbs. Not too bad, not too good. Beefy as all hell. Over beefy if you ask me, but that is kind of my mantra. I have attached a shot showing the "not covering the lights"

COOL! Definitly nice! And alot cheaper then any of the after market units, I bet you would spend that much on an old rusted stock carrier.

I'm looking to modify mine to carry two jerry cans and a highlift jack. However, I lack a tube bender and a welder. Keith already moved my tire up higher and reinforced it to carry my 140 lbs spare wheel/tire.
