Hey all -

New to the forum and am hot on the heels of getting my first Series III. Anyone in the Virginia Beach area that could get eyes on a vehicle for me? I have the local LR dealer checking it out, but I'm not sure they know what they are looking for. Happy to send something to your PayPal account for the trouble.

By way of introduction I'm out in Oakland, CA. Have owned domestic 4x's before such as Blazers, but this will be my first LR.

Thanks tons - and apologies if this thread belongs in another section.

Cheers,
alan

Hi, Alan-

I'm stationed in Norfolk, and live on the Norfolk, VA Beach border. I'll be happy to help as I can. If you send me the details, I'll see what I can do.

I own (and have pretty extensively rebuilt) two NAS D-90s, and previously had a hybrid S-III/RR thing, where I learned all the pitfalls and weaknesses of these sort of Rovers.

No payment is necessary, I'm just a Rover fan and would be happy to help someone else get into them without too much pain. :)

Hey Murph -

Thanks tons - but I just heard back on the PPI and the tech says the frame is super rusty. I wasn't too bothered about mechanical issues, but don't have the time or energy to deal with a frame-off resto.

If anyone is interested, this was the truck I was looking at:

Looked nice in the pics, but this is exactly the reason I was hoping to get eyes on her.

:-(

Cheers,
alan

I knew that looked familiar. It was blue a few months ago, and they had some crap in there about it being 1 of only 10 in the US or something.

Stay far away from those sheisters. It was listed a few months back (when it was blue) for $7,275 or something like that, now it appears they've painted it white and jacked up the price $225...I would think that paint job cost less than that.

It was an OBX truck (read that as it was on/near the beach a ton) and had the scars to show it.

Their link is the same from a few months back, but the truck somehow looks even worse now in white.

Keep looking!

Josh -

Thanks man...there were all kinds of red flags which is why I opted for the PPI. Glad the tech was honest about it. To your point about color, their ad states the car was blue, but obviously now white. One of the comments from the PPI was "amateur-ish paint job"....Ah well, when something is too good to be true, it usually is.

Disco - I have. Primary reason for getting something so old is to avoid CA smog requirements. My original plan was to get a mid-90's Defender, but CA is a real pain about the TDI swap. As '75 and earlier vehicles are exempt, I will be looking to convert to bio or SVO depending on the motor condition.

Thanks again guys - ak

allen,

You live in Oakland but are searching for a truck in Va Beach? I just moved to the VA area, the guys at ROAV are full of useful info and may know of a truck. www.roav.org (http://www.roav.org)

Keep checking this forum as they have Calf. trucks for sale every once in a while. Some diesels that have gotten all of the paperwork done and are tagged.

Yup... if you want a Series they come up for sale here and there on a regular basis here in the State. You shouldn't have to look too far.

Just as an info, there are plenty of Defenders " built " on Series bulkheads, there was a 90 for sell here 1971, a 110 local 1973, etc
