Electric Fans

:angry Well, this was kind of a let down. I searched the junk yards, found an electric 2 speed fan from a Taurus and it mated up to the D90 radiator very well! I had to weld a 1.5" piece of square tubing to one side of the radiator as a support/seal, but that was easy. You could bolt or rivit it if you wanted. Then just a little tab bending and a couple new holes and VOILA! I used a 3-terminal fan controller out of a VW Jetta (1983) that fits directly into the thermostat housing for the fan switch which turns the first fan speed on at 95c and the second at about 102 C. Problem is, the water pump shaft hits it by about .5". So much for eyeballing it. My tempormental viscous fan is back in for now till I calm down and sort it all back out, but this just won't work unless you either move the radiator forward (don't see that happening) or cut down the fan shroud (maybe.....).

Just wanted to save some people some work.

WOW, I like it but how thick is it? what about trying to mount it in front as a pusher fan, unless you have AC. The dual flexalite fans work because the space between the 2 fan motors lines up with the water pump. The only other thing I could see would be to cut the threaded part off of the end of the water pump pulley, the part that holds the clutch fan on, it's about 1/2' thick.

Yeah, I thought briefly about cutting the pump pulley, but decided against it as I figure it is not a bad idea to have it there in cases of emergencies/mind changes. I will look in front of the fan, but I don't think there is too much room due to the two cross brace bars/grill. Thanks for the suggestion. I am not married to the Taurus fan, either--just heard they were good and the shroud sure is a good fit.

Yeah I did not hear about the Taurus fans until after I got the Flexalites, but I have heard the same as you, that there relatively cheap and work well. There is quit a bit of room up front, The AC condenser and electric fan up front was about 2" thick and they fit fine. But I know the bars you are talking about, I just thought it would be easier to try then to try and move the radiator or cut the shroud.
