So my birthday is coming up next week and like every year that means vehicle tags are to be renewed. I got the ad velorem tax notice in the mail today. My 2002 Ford Superduty powerstroke diesel 4x4 carries a registration fee of $442.74. My 1997 D90 will be $466.59!! Makes me long for the days when I paid $20 for an "antique vehicle" tag for my series Rover.... :angry

Damn! It's 60 bucks to register in IL. A year. Went up from 40 a couple of years ago. That's criminal man!

Only eighteen years to go -- provided it's 25 years to qualify for 'antique vehicle' status. :)

I suppose that is the state's way of covering all the highway construction in Atlanta, a town some 100 miles from here, dadgumit!

I'm a law abiding citizen and taxpayer (really) but this makes me want to start looking for a pre-1985 90 VIN plate...

Too late, already bought the tags. Plus, with hurricane Ivan bearing down on the southeast in the path of Frances, I don't want to take any chances with my D90 insurance should it be crushed underneath one of the five 100 year old plus live oak trees in and around my garage.
