Changed the oil in my transfer box yesterday.
Found a gear tooth
Further investigation revealed this:-

Luckily this was the only cog affected and the broken tooth found it's way to the bottom of the transfer box without getting involved with any other moving parts :)

OH you can just use some glue and stick that tooth back on, if you want to get real fancy put a layer of Duct tape over it.:grin

Register the vehicle in Arkansas. They don't care about a missing tooth or two.

So Mike how much is it going to cost for a new gear? What do you think happened? Defective material? Bad bearings?

The gear was 20 years old and doesn't owe me much.
I had a cross drilled gear waiting in the wings £45 from Ashcroft Transmissions.
Which glue would you recomend for a seamless repair?
I presume the duct tape is merely to hold it all in place until the glue has gone off. I can forsee problems if the duct tape stays on :rolleyes

Madrid to Calais in about 24 hours motoring probably didn't help.
It was the tail end of an epic holiday which included following some of this year's Paris - Dakar rally route across the Sahara :)
