The Low down:
Both Rover Lab and L8 will be there at 9am Friday and Saturday.
The Rock Challenge begins at 1pm Saturday.

Yep, trail runs both Friday and Saturday (more details in the first post). Saturday there's usually a few groups out early in the AM, then the rock challenge in the afternoon, and a few more groups go back out onto the trails before heading back to the hotel for the dinner and awards.

Looking like I'm going to be off-road Rover-less though. I know it's early today for UPS and/or Fedex, but with no brakes or ARB parts for the DI, no brakes, failed viscous and a leaky gas tank on the RRC, a failing trans on the D2, an expired inspection on the trailer, I'm down to the LR3 on street tires.

Ok, ARB functioning and refitted into rear axle. Bled brakes again and have a pedal- really need to find out why the RF accumulates air but never looses fluid- vacuumed out some stink bugs, removed all the camping gear left over from MAR, changed the oil and added air to the tires desperatley in need of some. Head to the car wash tomorrow to remove the remaining mud bog mud from the radiator, fill it up with some high test and heading out Friday am.
Planning on some green /lite blues on Saturday afternoon with some stock/teenager customers if anybody wants to join us.

Just got into the Hampton Inn. Very cool to see a bunch of Rovers in the parking lot - many with a bunch of mud from today.
Wanted to meet up with some guys especially Charles about that diff to borrow but the lights stopped working going over the pass into Pine Grove. Had to hold the hi-beams on to get to the hotel. Light switch must have sh!t the bed. With the diff fiasco this week this put me in serious thought that I should just turn around. With just the rear hooked up i might just run some greens tomorrow with my son and get home before something else breaks.

Made it back home last night without too much issue. I had a good time on the trails - worked out where I ended up leading 70 year old Bill in his Disco I w/ an R380 and Paul (cannot remember his name for sure) and his daughter Dawn in a very cool (and I think only) Series III at ROTR. Both these guys were from OH and were warriors for driving the long distance to Rausch. We were looking to keep it mellow - I had no front wheel drive and the Series III and Disco were pretty stock. Got in some fun lines over in the West Property zone, working J1 to J2 and then over to Trail 11 which we had a little stuck and recovery on. Coming down the J2 drop was interesting - rear end was sliding - so I had to brake to get the front wheels to do some work. It actually would have been fun if the hill was wide open - could have slid it like on a mtn bike, haha.
Great meeting Josh and big thanks to him for the light switch - mine blew up on the way out. Thank God we were only a couple miles out from the hotel. But it was a relief to have a proper working one coming back home. Shout out to Justin @ Lucky 8 for tracking me down and offering the one out of his 90 - I really appreciate the offer
Good to see all the usually Landie heads - Charles, Goose, Jeremy and Jake with the Disco, Jeff and meeting his wife. Charles - thanks again for bringing out a diff even though I ended up not using it. Great meeting some new people like Doug (sry to hear about the Disco - Winch Hill is a bish!). Cool to see some trucks from the D90 board like Wolf's UnGay 110 - looks great in person. I wish I had more time to hang and wheel and swap stories but lots of family things going on. Looking forward to the next time at RC!

Justin, thanks for sponsoring and organizing on such a Lucky Gr8 event. Easy for me to say but 2 of these a year would be excellent. Also a big thanks to Doug, Dana, Josh and Randy. Two of my fan blades busted off and wedged in enough to stop my fan from operating. I didnt figure this out until i overheated the next morning, but as Rover luck would have it...Randy(of Rover Bones) had a spare fan, Dana had an impact wrench, Doug helped pull the fan shroud off and Josh had a much needed spare gal. of coolant. Thanks Guys, I thought I was done for sure.

Forgot I had a pic on my phone of my co-pilot Coop. He got a little muddy and seemed to have a good time. I think he was a trooper for riding shotgun almost 3 hours each way and then on the trail most of Sat. Love PA truckstops - he got a little 10 wheeler dump truck and authentic PA slingshot that kept him happy on the ride home :)

I like Russell's photo #61 where Charles is performing open ecu surgery in the dark with Trey, Kenny, and Jeff. It surprises me that Jill's goat doesn't end up in more pictures. That goat gets off on wheeling and stands with his head over her right shoulder looking out the windsheild. Cracks me up.

Charles, Thank you for a fun ride today! Also have fun wheeling with Jeff , Kenny and Clay with son. I met Trevor and his crew too and Doug with son. It was a nice Veteran day after all. I wish I could stay longer but lake house needs heat on to make the 3 years old daughter comfy. Have fun guys! Justin, next time!
Cheers,

Sal, glad you made it out for a couple runs!

HAHA...I was still more bummed about the tire. Cruised home no problems though!
I am loading my pictures now, all 800mb of them so it will take a bit. I will post the link when they are done.
It was great seeing everyone and thanks to those that put the event on... well worth it. Without a doubt one of the best events of the year and great way to end the wheeling "season."

Sal, good seeing you. I still need to see what pictures you took with my camera while riding with me, but I took none myself the whole weekend, not even on my phone.
I think any kind of gasket on the ECU covers would have prevented it getting wet as it had none. It appears on this year of disco they just decided to not even try waterproof it, or put it in a waterproof location even. The D90 ecu at least has a seal. Keeping pout of hood deep water also works wonders for keeping your ECU dry though too :)

never had this issue with my 14cux trucks. the gems ecu has no gaskets on the cu in fact it has a condensation drain so you can't seal it up. Location sucks, under the hood behind the washer bottle

I'm still a little confused as to what happened to our group(s) on Saturday. I headed out with Clay, Doug, Jorge and crew in the morning, then we met up with Kenny, Galpin, and everyone else at that boulder on the hill with that rotted stump next to it that Kenny was trying to get ove. We headed out from there with everyone as a large group, but when we slowed down behind Clay when he almost flopped, we soon realized everyone just sped ahead! We didn't realize we had been ditched until we got to the "intersection" of 10A/B.
I'll load up my pics tonight, including the black we did which clearly stated "Sharp Objects" on the sign. :)

I was confused to.. I saw clay... he was right behind me... I looked back and everyone was gone.
Certainly nobody "sped" off. There were plenty of times I was sitting parked waiting for the other trucks in front of me to keep moving through. I was surprised you guys didn't catch up... remember we did have a STOCK truck with us.
As for the sign.... maybe it should be in front of the sharp object and not after :)

Doug was plenty involved don't worry. We had done a fair amount of troubleshooting before this and the water coming out of the ECU was plenty evidence needed to open it up and dry it out. I've opened up 14cux ecu's before so considered it low risk. I could have stood around with my hands in my pockets, but why not help?

I'd like to second Justin's Thank You to everyone for attending Rovers on the Rocks 3! The event is getting larger and staying simple, (and in my opinion, sometimes just the way these events oughta be!)
Need to set the record straight: This has been Justin's concept from the beginning, recognising the need for a casual event that was heavy on social 4 wheeling as well as introducing North America's only Land Rover Rock Challenge. I contribute very little to the organisation and planning of ROTR ; that is where Justin's experience from other events comes in handy. I look forward to this event every year partially because it's in backyard, but mostly because of the people and the good times.
So, from Trevor, Keith and Francis from the shop formerly known as Roverlab-Thanks Justin!
