FINALLY!!!
The info you've all been waiting for.. the official registration for URE!8.

This event will be held in the Uwharrie National Forest in Central North Carolina October 21-23, 2011. We certainly hope that you find the information you need in the link below, and that you have the opportunity to come out!

URE!8 Information and Registration (http://onslrs.org)

Hope you can join us; it looks like it will be a great year!!

Something to note:

Just like the previous 2 years, we will not have a formal registration tent. We are encouraging everyone to register/pay online before October 14. However, If you are not able to pay online and need to pay at the event, we will be accepting membership fees and such at dinner that Saturday evening of the event. At this time we will also be distributing the preordered shirts as well.

We may set up a small self-service tent with trail maps and schedule board near the entrance/exit of the Badin Lake Group Camp where we will be staying.

85% of the folks going to this event, the Uwharrie Rover Expedition! (URE!), know how we, the Old North State Land Rover Society run a large event like this and know what to expect because they have been joining us every October for the past several years. For the other 15% that are going to come for the first time and have questions, please do not hesitate to ask! We DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY. This is a very laid back and relaxed event.

That said, I hope you find the opportunity to join us for an excellent weekend in October!

Again, contact us if you have any questions:
oldnorthstate@gmail.com or facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Old-North-State-Land-Rover-Society/275086745839942)

Thanks,
-Steven

I think we should create a patch or a sticker that says something like "I am in the pulled Justin out of a lake of water club". I know that it would not be a very exclusive club - membership would likely grow into the dozens or even hundreds. But it would be good fun picking on Justin.

URE8 needs more leaf springs - 'nuff said.

As a follow up, I thought URE was one of the best events I have been to. The cost was cheap (free for me), the event was simple (no circus tents, bands, or pony rides), and most of all, it was fun. If you have not been, I highly recommend it. Even the $5 Bojangles dinner was good.

It was nice to finally meet Mark Kellgren, Scott Wold, Dale Knepp, Will Tillery, and Tom Paisley from LRNA.

I had two objectives this weekend. One was to meet as many other enthusiasts as I can, as I didn't know many at all. That was accomplished. The second was to get some kind of dirt from the wild on my truck so I can begin to reduce my self-imposed poser classification and degrade the argument that if I am never going to take it anywhere than why have it. also missions success.

Now you just need some lockers, HD shafts, sliders, and a few other small bits of armor and your truck will truly take you anywhere.

Jack, what lens were you sporting this weekend. Shots look great!

My favorite lens is the Canon 24-70 F2.8L lens - best for walking around taking pictures of stationary trucks. The shots around camp were all shot with that lens and some of the trail shots. I use this lens a lot at the car shows I go to.

I also used the Canon 70-200 F4.0L Non-IS lens for the action shots on Daniel and a few other places.

I shoot a Canon 1DsMkII full frame digital camera - 16.7 MP resolution - I have way too much money in camera stuff but it's one of my major hobbies - along with Land Rovers, Porsches and old campers.

Its hard to be where you need to be to get the good action shots - I was glad we hiked down the hill from the top of Daniel to catch the action at the third ledge - that was fun.

Thanks Jack. I took a total of 5 photos this weekend and they were all of the Lucky 8 D90 sank in the mud hole. I'm still attached to the same 24-70 2.8L like yours and love it. Do wish I had a full frame weather resistant body like a 1D though.

Submariner's earn their "Dolphins" by virtue of time underwater. I'm thinking Justin's there.

"To earn the right to wear the pin, prospective submariners complete an extensive qualification process that lasts about one year (for both enlisted and officers, though the two programs differ significantly) and covers virtually all of the submarine's systems."
