I am right there with you guys. :grin My wife has BEEN thinking I was crazy for a long time. She doesn't even question the things I do anymore, as she has figured out 2 things:

1. I can justify doing just about anything, to my trucks that is, if I have long enough to think about it.

2. Since I can justify the things I do, she doesn't question the $$$ I keep dumping into my trucks. She just shakes her head and smiles now, I guess in disbelief that I have a small fortune in my driveway and garage.

I do think the Rover-bug has finally bitten her, as she was asking me could she have my project 90 when it was done, and sell her car. Of course my reply was NO! I then offered her my 97 90 SW. She said if she had to drive a SW, she wanted a 110! Looks like I get to justify building a 110 now;) Now I just need to find one of those CKD kits!?

Good luck on your pojects guys.

Randy, That looks awesome! I see how it can be mesmerizing. Is that the original motor or did you buy this one new?

Would also love to see a pic of your Series... :)

I was thinking this morning about your project while I was naked in the shower, hope that doesn't bother you. Since all you body panels are straight I think you should be the first person to polish thier aluminum body to a high luster. Blinded by the bling!:sunny

TDI Guy

David... It doesn't bother me at all.... LOL.:demented That would be some severe Bling. Speaking of that, I saw an H2 today that was so blinged out, I had to laugh. There was more chrome bolted on then a Tractor trailer... I personally am a non bling guy...

By the way, I'm sure there will be a few marks after the first wheelin' trip. After the first mud hole, the new clean undercarrage will look just like everyone elses.

Yeah, try not to cry the first time that things gets muddy. Give the polishing some thought, no paint to scrape off and when it is sunny your truck could double as a signal beakin.

I have half of it primed in a flat black right now that looks really sick....... So forget about the polished look David.

I was test fitting my rear body today on the frame and noticed the the p/s front rear tub mount is actually 1.5 inches to far back and there was a space between the mount and the body lip..:hmm What the F&%$ :mad ...Not to big of a deal though. I will just make a spacer block. Other then that it fits perfect and looked great. I just dont know how Designa chassis could have screwed that up.
When someone gets a chance, could they measure there door openings from rear tub to bulkhead for me?? I just want to double check everything :confused .

Randy, I measured at the bottom of the opening, and got 34 and 7/8 inches, which includes the lips on both sides for the weatherstripping. I measured from the front tub supports to the bulkhead outriggers(to where the bolt goes through frame to hold bulkhead-there is a piece of steel welded there to reinforce the hole) and got 42" exactly. Hope this helps. By the way, is anything meant to mount in between the mount and the body, like the tank?

Randy,

That is looking great! Are you going to have a Non-NAS gas tank or are you going with the dual tanks? I see your filler opening is the UK version. Also, with that last pic, I can see how much room you got for tire clearance - damn, that's a lot of room!

Are you putting a half cab? That looks real cool, great job!

I will be going with the side tank only. The only thing that sucks about it is that I will have to fab up some kind of skid plate for it. It sits higher then the fram but lower then a slider.. Any ideas anyone?? David?? Oh yes, plenty of room for the new rubbers...35"?? 36"?? I will be doing a full hard top but would like to have a 1/2 cab soft top made for summer. I also have 2 sets of doors. 1/2 doors and full roll up window doors for the truck.

I will trade my valuable advise about the gas tank for your roll up doors straight up. I know I am being generous today!

TDI Guy
November 17th, 2003, 04:18 PM
LOL.... what a guy.. I would hate to talk to you when your not in the mood.... I'm thinking of a plate of some sort from the slider to the frame rail.

Buckon37s
November 17th, 2003, 04:35 PM
That is the best way to do it. Take either 3/8in alluminum or 1/4 in steel and put two creases in it to bolt it from the slider to the frame. It is not hard but if you can have the metal creased to your spects from the metal shop where you by it, it looks much cleaner. Then just bolt it down and you are good to go. Not to bad. Would you like my address to ship those doors or do you still have it from before? :grin :grin

TDI Guy
November 17th, 2003, 04:42 PM
No need. I will deliver them myself.... Do you think it would be a big deal that the bolt headw will be hanging down? Can they get sheered off easily?

Buckon37s
November 17th, 2003, 04:45 PM
That is a consern and they can get sheered off but if you use grade 8 it is amazing how robust they are. I was thinking about puting a 90 degree turn on the frame rail side of the plate in order to bolt it to the side of the frame to keep it out of the way. I really think it will be fine though. Especially if you are running the stock mounting crossmember on the 300 TDi because that hangs down about 1.5 inces below the frame and would hit first. I grinded it all smooth so mine would be more exposed it I kept it.

TDI Guy

that is an Idea too... We will see when I get that far.
