Saw this on the Guns and Rovers forum. I always use brass nuts on the flange from the exhaust manifold makes them much easier to remove. When I called around I got the impression that it was not that common. I find when removing and fitting a series starter if I take of the exhaust manifold nuts a can move the exhaust pipe just enough to make working on the starter much easier.

Yup, been using brass nuts on them for decades. They can still be difficult to turn sometimes so I only use 6pt sockets on them.

Third brass nuts - we used brass flange nuts on our turbo hondas and they never seized, both on the exhaust studs and the turbo.

Fourth - it's a trend. We use them on VW's both turbo and regular exhaust manifolds.

Local machine shop has re-done the exhaust studs on a few manifolds for me over the years, every time I get them back it has a bronze stud and a long brass nut on it.
Makes my life so much easier in the long run, well worth the cost and time to track the stuff down.
