A friend who does jeeps suggested chassis black by Eastwood after sandblasting but before dis-assembly.
Any other tips?

Eastwood or Por15. Both make good stuff.

Brush paint with rustoleum enamel and don't be dainty or stingy. Slop that stuff on there quick. If it scrapes on a rock slosh on some more.

I'm with Bill, paint on a diff is a wearable item. Especially if you take it off road at all.

I use Rustoleum professional (old name was hard hat ) in the rattle can; semigloss or flat black depending on what Im painting. Its durable, readily available, touches up easily, and comes in your choice of flavors.

I was told once that gloss paints vs. semi gloss are more resistant to damage... is that true?

I dont think so. Gloss seems to chip in bigger flakes, while flat seems to stay put and just scar the base metal. Flat tends to hold moisture (and mud and grime) more than semi or full gloss.

I have used semi and gloss on two trucks. The semi holds dirt and stays dirty looking longer. the gloss does not hold mud and such as much. Both needed to be reprayed from time to time, I just did it once a year in the spring.

Black appliance epoxy paint over top of epoxy primer. Trust me. I tried everything and epoxy sticks by far the best.

POR-15 topped off with Chassis coat, very nice finish and holds up well.

Thanks Guys!
I had one SUPER tough wheel stud that finally came out with some heat.
Now I can move on to prep and paint.

I recall someone saying that you can set a can of enamel in a tub of hot water and it will go on like butter!

I've had a tradition going back to my very first car. I always paint my car's rear ends bright gloss pink. So my LR has had a pink rear diff housing for almost 34 years now. I think it is cute.

I recently purchased a rear convoy light. The one that mounts under the truck and lights up the rear diff housing. Still need to hook it up.
