View Full Version : Series III hub question

Does anyone know who manufactured the locking hubs that came as an option on the series III's that came into New England (and possibly elsewhere)? They are the type that have the two arms that pop out, and then spin and then lock back in. I know that is a terrible and cryptic description, but I couldn't find any pictures to post and it's dark out, so I can't take a picture of mine.
At any rate, I have a set of these on a set of axles that I need to get rid of and was wondering of they are of any value. Surly someone can see through my terrible description.
Save me Obi-wan, you're my only hope.

Yea, sounds like you have the dualmatics. They look butch, but arent the greatest. Ike's site ( pangolin4x4.com ) has some good pics of the various series hubs that were available.

Those Dualmatics are one of the most rugged series freewheeling hubs IMO.
The downside of them is that without careful maintenance and use the detents holding the levers in place get worn so that they don't work anymore. Not many people care for them for that reason so I expect the value is fairly low.

That's what they are for sure. Thanks. Maybe I'll pull them off and see if I can clean them up on some rainy/snowy day and throw them up on the 'bay without any expectations. Then I can at least get rid of my axle housings and diffs; I bet the scrapper will give my enough to buy a 12 pack.

I'd say scrap the dual matics and sell the diffs! ;)

In the vintage Jeep world, Dualmatic hubs are the most coveted and fetch a premium at about $50 used and $200 restored. I sell both hub decal and the dash decals for them.

I've got a 5 gallon bucket full of them and have been giving them away for parts.............

Seems as if the detents get worn and the arms flop out or trail junk catches the little arms and mangles them. Not my favorite but I hold of on flooding the market with them and driving the price down LOL.

I used to run these on my jeeps and I would love to find a set for my series IIa 109. And with wolf selling the decals that makes them that much cooler.

Here is what the original Dualmatic hub decals and dash decals look like. I am sold out of the hub decals and will not get any more in. Some guy on the west coast bought up all my stock for his hub restoration business. I do have a bunch of dash decals left over though....

Here are some write-ups on my website:

And restoring the hubs:

Wolf I would like to buy one of your dash decals for my Rover I found a pair of dual matics and am restoring them.

Can anyone tell me if the hubs for Rovers where blue like the ones on CJs?

The ones I picked up have a steel chrome ring around the alloy case that was rusty and lightly pitted, so the main body will need a coat of paint as well.

The covers are in good shape but no sign of any paint except some lime stone over spray from someone painting the wheels on the truck.

Thanks Guys

I've seen both blue and black Dualmatics, but none with a chrome trim ring!

Do they all have that steel band around them? I have prepped mine for paint as I DO NOT want chrome on my Series.

Well it makes them heavy and I would think stronger, but its not like a 10 spline axle isnt the weak link :)

Thanks for your info and the decal
