I'll be there ... though, it's been about 6 yrs since I was wheeling regularly (and living in CO) and 10+ yrs since I was living in NC and involved in the NC/East Coast Rover wheeling scene.

It seems a lot has changed since I was a 'Uwharrie Safari Trail Guide' back in 2001 ... not many of the guys I knew seem to be around anymore, but i'm looking forward to catching up with faces old and new.

That said (and, yes, I'm ready for the ribbing), I'll be there in a J**p JKU. :eek: Oh, the sacrilege! I still love all things Defender, though - and, I 'will' be there with a friend of mine in a LR4. :grin

So, if you see a guy in a built up silver, 4-dr JK with a Camel Trophy sticker on the back, cut me a 'little' slack. lol

LOL ... it was tough, though. I still love Defenders. The JK is just sooo much easier to live with now that I have 4 kids and no time to wrench.

Sounds good - nathan (the guy I'm going with) and I are just going down for Friday night - probably role in ~3p on Friday and out ~7p on Saturday evening. We're going to do a quick camp set and go run up Daniel first thing, then dinner, then maybe a night run Friday eveing ... maybe.

Got back late this afternoon from Uwharrie Safari 2012 - had a great time and met some really nice folks. Perfect weather, good food, great trails - an event can't get much better. The gravel roads were really dusty - I think I'm going to have to remove everything from the interior of the D-90 including the seats to even start to make a dent in the North Carolina dust collection I brought back to Georgia with me.

It doesn't look too bad on the video but it was the biggest obstacle I went over. It was a spot just below the big Kodak Rock playground area. I had a great time and enjoyed seeing everybody. Thanks.

Yeah that's a nasty spot - I really banged my frame hard there last fall - no damage but it made a bad noise that made me wince. You really need to pay attention to your line there.

Actually I was in the process of having a spotter direct me through the labyrinth of fallen pine needles and kids throwing nerf footballs in that shot. It was certainly a hairy moment.

The dude with the silver LR3 has been wheeling that since new in '07, he didn't do the trail rash there that weekend but I believe had done it on those same trails a few years ago.

The LR3 had that damage when it arrived - Mike is not afraid to wheel that thing though. He and Rick came down from Virginia and it was their first time at Uhwarrie so they asked me to lead them around. I took them on every trail except the approach to Kodak rock (that big ledge you have to go over) and the ledges and hill climb on Daniel since their trucks were basically stock.

The only damage either one of them suffered was when Rick drove into a two foot tall boulder at the top of Daniel when we were turning around - apparently the words " you're about to hit a rock" didn't compute as he proceeded to drive right into the rock and crunched the bumper end cap - he already has an ARB bumper on order so no harm done.

One guy broke an axle and front AND rear diffs on Daniel (don't recall his name, young guy in a silver Disco). And yes, Jack's pics are phenomenal. I did good behind the lens when we went to Rausch, but totally slacked down there.

Mikes LR3 got all his damage on the trail in his back yard in Gainsville. Jack was a great trail guide, and yes...he warned me about the rock. Great job on the pics Jack. Thanks for showing us around. I think I have all the dust washed out of the Disco.....for now that is.
