I don't think anything has been decided yet regarding dates; however, I have heard rumor that the event is going back to Colorado and will not be in Moab again this year.

Saw this thread and thought I would update everyone. The National Rally is being moved back to Colorado for 2005. The event will be held in Leadville from July 27th to July 30th. Check the Solihull Society website for more/updated information. http://www.solihullsociety.org

Figures you guys move it back to CO after we move! Leadville is pretty cool and central to some nice 4 wheeling. Don't drink the water, though :crazy

How serious are you about going? I could meet up with you guys in St. Louis and I think I can wrangel a couple of Discos to go as well.

Pretty serious. It's early (and things come up), but I'm making plans to free up the time now. Just was trying to gauge interest as driving out alone from the East is less enjoyable.

Oh come on! Jimmy wants to buy a trailer to tow his out with their Ford, I would have to drive mine, you know what happens when ever I drive mine more then 100 miles from home?

February 23rd, 2005, 04:00 PM
True. Towing? Would be nice but won't be what I will do. My subie would have a hard time pulling the truck. Although I've been thinking of ditching it for something with tow worthy qualities for projects. :idea
We could stash your truck parts along the way in different places. Bonnet in PA, top in IL, doors in Ohio, etc...
You can just pick them up on the way back home... Hell, if Jimmy tows, we can unload our spare parts and heavy crap in his truck and make him pull it all!

i am serious about going and as Mikes says i will be towing the 90
although i'm a carefull driver off-road:grin i would like to make sure i could get it home
if Mike goes we could give his a rest and tow his 90 for a while
Dave Souza wanted to be kept informed,i know he would tow as well
as long as we don't get more than two break downs we'll be all set

Sounds cool. I'll see what the vacation schedule looks like. I've done the LT100 a couple times and would love to drive there as well.
If there's interest there's some sweet condos for rent on the lake outside of town. I'll see what I can dig up as its been awhile since I have been there.

I guess two tow rigs and two drivers betters our chances! And Uhaul does rent one way...

Ok, so I'm still new to the land rover thing. What is the attraction to driving 3/4 across country for a few days wheeling in Co? What is the really cool stuff I'm missing?
Not sure if I'd be able to make it (either still looking for a job - got the time but not the money, or I'll have found one - no time but I could then afford it).

Well, Colorado is is incredible. I try to make it out there as often as my schedule permits. It's just fun to wheel in an all Rover event. Last year they had some vendors as well. Just sounds like a fun roadtrip.

I just moved about a month ago and have already met a ton of LR ppl in the area. It's always great meeting up and talking shop. I'm really looking forward to meeting y'all! Hope evryone can make it out this year!

Scott, I think it's a combination of things. The people, the wheeling, the cross country trip, etc. Make an enjoyable little holiday.

Sounds like it should be longer than a few days wheeling then. :grin
Although I have driven hundreds (couple times thousands) of miles on black top to wheel a few miles of trail and then return. Both of the long ones were week long trips though.

I've driven out for the past five events since we moved back east from CO. I'll be headed out again this year. There is a small contingency talking about heading to CA to run the Rubicon directly after the rally if anyone is interested.

March 24th, 2005, 01:53 PM
oooooh yeah, trailered now. Krawlers see as few pavement miles as possible, I still have a set of MTRs for that. I don't miss the drive out west in the 90...mostly for fear of having to get home if something breaks.

OK Dave I found the thread and registered.
I am driving out from NY before the rally, or at least thats the plan right now. I'd like to convoy if possible and meet up to run some of the pass trails before the rally. I am a lowly Disco driver?! I'll keep an eye on this thread if anything starts to come together.

Hey! Welcome aboard Kevin. I think a few of us are planning the same. We were going to meet up at Jimmy's some weekend to plan it all out. Not that you want to drive up to NH. But, we'll lay down some preliminary ideas and figure it out.

I'm still in Dave. The BWO thing has had a hard time getting off the ground but it looks like some folks are heading out. I'll keep an eye on the VTXS list for updates. I have already figured out a 6 day intinerary starting at Red Cone and ending at Ouray with minimal pavement stretches.

Time to revive this. Question. If you trailer out, what's a good place to stash the truck and trailer while you cruise some trails in CO for a few days before or after the event?

If you're not too picky where you park, you are more than welcome to park in my horse pasture. Plenty of room and far enough off the beaten path noone would be messing with your stuff. If Larkspur is too far away from where you'll be playing, let me know what area you will be around, maybe I'll have some ideas.

Hey guys, I am 99% down to attend the Rally. David are you still thinking of doing the rubicon? If so I will definetly go with you. Would like to do it before they close it. The cross country drive sounds like it would be fun; however, I would be heading out from LA. Are you planning on camping, hotel or renting a house. Would be great to finally meet you guys in person. Let me know your plans.
dmarchand
June 14th, 2005, 08:30 AM
David, I'm doubtful on the rubicon. It's just a lot to do in one trip and while I want to get there before it closes, I don't know if this is the trip to make that happen. A few D-90s and DII's from the east are driving out together a day or two before the rally, then staying through the week after to knock down some trails throughout CO.
But the plans are still coming together. What are you thinking of doing?

Have no plans and no itinerary, I'm down for whatever. I can stay a few days longer and run trails. Keep me posted on what you guys plan on doing, if you don't mind having another in the group.

I'm goint to trailer my truck down and plan to leave saturday morning 07/23/05.
I have a site booked at Sugar Loafin Camp ground from the 26th July to 3rd Aug.
There is a place on site to park the trailer, even if we don't stay at site after the National Rally its a cheap way of parking the trailer for a few days.I'm interested in any trails you would like to do after the Rally.Anyone know the itinerary for the rally???
