I'm leaving next week for some work in the UK. Incidentally, I'm going to Birmingham, which I understand is near Solihull. Is there anything to visit? Do they still manufacture LRs there, or what precisely is there these days? Make a visit?
Anyone who knows, your feedback is appreciated...

YOu mean solihull - it's pronounced solly-hull, though I guess with the correct birmingham accent you say it in a desultory manner and drop the h as in solly'ul. I went in 1995 - the place was sprawling with steel wheeled discos - the alloy wheel supplier had failed them so to keep production going they were just fitting steels to them and spreading them out wherever they would fit. You could try to get on the "Land Rover Experience" which is an off road course of sorts held within the factory site - it is actually a lot better than you would imagine - jungle, rivers, steepish hills, desert roads etc. If they still do it. You have to pay (maybe £100, my old office paid so I am not sure) but it includes a good lunch and lots of LR propaganda. No tour of the factory though. Basic off road tuition and driving but very basic I suspect by D-90 forum member standards.
just found this....

I was sure that the LR website had a good overview of the "Home of the Legend" but I can't see it. There's just this now: http://www.landrover.com/gb/en/Adventures/Experience/4by4training.htm
Some contact details from the site:
