have a 2500 Warn that when put under load it wont spool in under load. the operator was drunk and tryin to pull palets apart for a fire when it crapped out. any thoughts? it will spool in and out but when a load is put on it it was a poppin clickin noise? we are takin it apart now so any thoughts are welcome.

Maybe a burnt out contact? It may also do that if it doesn't get enough power. And Phil, you know better then to use a winch when drinking.:grin

when we took it off the mount there was a screw missing from one of the "bars" that holds the sides together. the current hypothesis is that when it got ina bind the body of the winch would flex not letting gears mesh well. will get a screw tomorrow and see what happens. its a 2500lb warn on a aYamaha big bear. its quite a beast.

o yeah could you elaborate on the contact thing?

The electrical contacts that switch the power on and off, they don't go very often but it was just a guess. But if it has been under water then that increases the chance of burning or corroding the contacts.
