Hey gang,

There was a really good thread over on the Discoweb about Simex tires and a few places you could get them here in the US. Anyone happen to catch the links or names of those places?

i haven't been on dweb in a long time, but norman hall (solihull socieity here in CO) has been able to get some sets from his homeland of australia for a couple of guys in the club i believe..

I'm not sure if you have seen/used these in person. I have. Do NOT plan on running them on the road. They sound and feel like a helicopter on dry pavement. Much, much worse than a swamper.

Two of my friends run the tyres. they provide massive amounts of grip in wet muddy conditions but the fly wheel effect of 35' tyres spnning and griping destroys standard shafts and diffs.
The last but one extreem winch challenge I took part in saw my friends 90 V8 destroy 3 half shafts and a cv joint getting to one punch.
Another friend destroyed an innerfront half shaft, 3 ARB diffs and an LT95 gearbox!
Huge grip but standard LR parts just can"t handle the torque kick back. 32" Simex extreems are just comming into the country they too are diff killers!!:eek:

Oh.. well, yes if you still run the stock stuff with them, of course. The same is true here with people that run 35s here with the stock parts. They break fast with those big tires. You really shouldnt run any 35" tire without HD shafts and diffs.

Hey! I have been running 35" tires for 1.5 years and the only thing I break are U-joints in the rear driveshaft, and you guys know I don't always take it easy. I also run open diffs, and I think that helps alot.

Actually you are just getting lucky with the diffs and axles. The pin in stock Rover diffs are the weakest point of the package. Your breakages seem to be focused on the easy to repair u-joint, but your still breaking something. Better that than the diffs though.

Both my friends have gone HD everything in the drive train since the destruction derby.
Me I keep trundling about on 7.50x16 crossply remold Super Mud Pluggas and don't break anything at all, touch wood.:boring
I do get a bit of:stick from time to time but careful choice of line usually gets me through!!!!!!!!
