Hello,
I need to get some information on the trails that i hear about in Blowing Rock, NC, right outside of boone. I go to school at western carolina university and just bought a house in boone. I am looking for trails around boone and blowing rock to ride on. If anyone has any info on these trails i would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Jason Habbal

the globe is supposed to be good. its right off the parkway outside of blowing rock. i used to mtn bike it a bit when i lived there until the rangers started coming around. evidently its open now to 4x4s. j tisdale ("whited90") ran it a year or so ago i believe. maybe he can chime in.
where in boone is your house? my parents live near there part of the year....

ahh, Todd General Store .... good pies in there (or at least they did at one time).
I don't know of any trails around Tarboro. The only places I ever went in NC were Uwharrie, Tellico, one place near RCH that i don't remember the name of & Hurricane Creek.
if you haven't already, check out.....

Troy,
Yeah i have been to the todd general store. Neat little place. Do you know of any trails right around todd going out of boone or is blowing rock pretty much it. My driveway up to the house is going to be a 4x4 trail when it snows considering its straight up and curvy on the side of the mountain. Also, i have done the hurricane creek trail and thought it was very good somewhat basic off road trail for beginners.

Phillip,
Me and you have talked about Hurricane Creek. Fairly easy with a few tricky rock sections but nothing to bad...pretty wide open trails with minimal mud. Mostly rock and creek crossings. Troy correct me if i am wrong on that but it seems for the most part to be a fairly easy trail, at least from what i thought.

yeah, hurricane creek is a breeze. may have mild challenges in a stock vehicle, but overall an easy trail.
i don't know of anything public around the todd area. I've hit a couple of areas on private land thru acquaintances, but its really nothing but good views ... good for picnics, etc.

The Globe is the only place in Blowing Rock that I know of, there is supposed to be a rock garden near the top of Beach Mtn. I believe Matt Hedrick knows about several trails up there that may be on private land. If you are looking for something more challenging, Tellico isn't that far from you. I'll post up next time we head up that way(Troy...think you can sneak away from the fam for a few days in Jan?).

Tsali. shit on Tsali I know a few rides that are much more fun. just no single track whatever that might be worth.

you mean no single track at Tsali???!!!! :confused a couple of the downhill sections (can't remember the loop names at the moment) are some of the fastest (read: fun) I've ever done. .... granted, Tisdale was there which always kicks things up a notch.
but, to an extent ...Tsali has lost some of its lure. we were riding it 8-10 years ago before it was listed in all the bike mags. even on weekends it wasn't very crowded. last time i was up there, it was a zoo.
as for other rides, point me to them. i'm always up for something new. I've done a lot of the common ones around NC (not to mention CO and Moab).
sorry for the hijack..... if this keeps up, maybe we should start a new thread

yeah i like pisgah. No all there is at Tsali is single track most of the stuff i ride are fire roads and atv/dirt bike trails. Wow I just noticed a spell check at the bottom of the screen... Tsali is fun I have riden everything out there. There is a place right outside of Ashville called bent creek its a pretty nice ride. o welll.... I think i am gonna go ride...

Tellico trails 4,5,and 6 along with parts of 2, 8, 11 (leads to the base of Guardrail) are all doable for any 90 with 2" lift and MT's. There's a "go around" at the base of the Guardrail that will allow you to avoid the carnage on the way up to Helicopter Pad.
Been going twice a year for a weekend in April and in August since 2000 and with the exception of one mishap in my Disco (sideview mirror caught a root and ripped off and did some panel damage on the way off), I've never gotten the first scratch. Just be careful and don't let anyone talk you into going up the Rock Garden, Schoolbus, or Peckerwood unless you like going to the body shop.
