leaking d90

Anyone have any suggestions on stopping a small leak along the top front( where it screws down) portion of the top. I have sealed all around the bolts and across the top with clear silicone. I still get some water dripping down through the map light.

I had the same problem when I frist put my top on, I had to cover the entire bolt with kitchen and bath silicone, not the cheap stuff but the best stuff they had at HD. I also cleaned everything before I put the silicone on, that helped the most. I did not put anything over the top of the windshield exept weather stripping.

I use what's called "cord weather-stripping", you can find it at most hardware stores.

I just put a little bit under the washer and on the last few bolt threads and tighten away. Not only does it stop the leaks it has an added benefit of letting you know how much to tighten the bolt, i.e. once it starts to squeeze out that's usually tight enough. I also use it seal the gaps around the roll bars.

I'm sure this will get some response. I have a 1994d90 with the fiberglass hardtop installed. I have used silicone around all the bolts and along the top seam. I am still getting a lot of water on the pass. floor. ANY ideas where it may be coming from. I have used a sh%t load of silicone in all the obvious locations.

Have you checked the vents on the windscreen? This is a common place for leaking (mine do) and can be replaced by series 109 vent seals.

Sometimes it is hard to get a good seal along the Doortop and bottom.

Door tops is a problem on mine...adjusted the hinges to put more pressure on the upper door area, and this has eliminated the passenger side leak, but I still have a small one on the driver side. I just added some weather stripping on the door top where there is a gap...have to see if this helps, have not had it out in the rain since I did this.

THANKS GUYS, I will check all those areas as well. In terms of the vent seals can you run some silicone on the outside without replacing the seals. I don't use them anyway.

Toyota locked a cat into their car to test the seals. 24 hours later they came back and the cat had suffocated. Land Rover tried it, they came back 24 hours later and couldn't find the cat.

Leaks go with the truck. How else will all the water get out after you've gone in too deep when wading?

I just tried the cord weather stripping & my hardtop is finally watertight! (except for one window seal, but I will address that later). I am thrilled to be driving in the rain & not have water pouring in! :)
