Any weekend my truck is running is good for me! It's that Dave Souza guy you need to worry about! And will your truck really be ready? Are you going to try the killer mud puddle? I have been band from it for life!

March 7th, 2005, 08:00 AM
It will be ready in april no problem but with no dash in it yet...lol but how needs that anyway. oh, and no sliders yet unless I get the parts to fab mine up soon. I sould be ordering the tires this week. As for the BIG mud puddle, we will have to see...lol that would just kill me.. Maybe not on the first trip.....lol

:evilfinge no really.... I had it out yesterday and took it behind the local K-mart to where there loadind dock is. I used the concrete ramp going up to the door as a make shift RTI ramp.. It worked great. Some guy was walking his dog and asked if I got into an accident and if I needed help. I told him that it is sopose to twist like that and that I do need help but I doubt he can get it for me... :)

Pulling it around on a trailer and pushing up a ramp doesnt count.

22-24th should be OK for me as far as I know.. Once we get closer to the date I'll know more. As long as it isn't the last two weeks in March or the first week in April I should be able to make it. Have to remodel my bathroom and re-do the floors in my kitchen and laundry room those weeks. Hopefully I'll get my little girls huge playground put up also so that the wife will really be happy with me.. :)

March 15th, 2005, 03:38 PM
how far in advance are we going to want to reserve a campspot to get in?
Mike Hippert
March 15th, 2005, 03:43 PM
If we stay at Rausch I don't think we have to reserve that far in advance maybe a few weeks? They never seem to have too many campers. We tried the KOA before but they only had a few tent spots and they filled up fast like we needed to reserve last year for this event. Then there is the trailer park (what was the name?) and I would think a week or 2 out would be fine for them.

Whats the 411 on the motel someone mentioned earlier?
cgalpin
March 15th, 2005, 04:05 PM
I'm fine with primitive camping inside rausch myself. Far more more convenient than a motel. If we do that, then I agree with Mike, we should not need to reserve it very early.

Ken; are you the one getting hitched? If not then skip the wedding, if you are, well have the wedding on the trail, I think Tyler being D-90 source safety guy makes it so he can marry people, and Zach will be there to be your best man, I'll bring a cake and jimmy will bring the booze.
Chris, the hotel is only slightly less primitive then camping at Rausch, they have hot water sometimes and you still have to deal with the hillbillies, just less tire burning. And anyway, you bring the hotel with you!

Hey Dave! We meet up in CT at a rest stop on 84, Dave S knows the exit number area right Dave? We are on 84 all the way through CT so pick a spot nd we will stop fuel up and meet up.
Tyler it is in the sub clause in section 9.2.1 titled when Ken won't come to Rausch.
souza
March 16th, 2005, 07:07 AM
Yeah Mike, last time we met at the rest stop on I-84 between southbound exits 70 & 69, Willington. I think it was about 2:00 am? I think you guys were early though, should we say 1:30?
Dave, I'm sort of northern Foster, so I get there by taking 101 out of RI to US 44, then I think SR 74 to SR 32 and I get on 84 south, and the Rest Stop is right there. That way we meet up before Hartford. I know that's north and therefore out of the the way for you though. So you could catch us later on 84, maybe after hartford.... Just name an exit, easy place to find, etc.

Warm! Ha, I guess they've got spring fever! With as long as this winter's been it's tough to guess. According to averages for harrisburg, PA, the average low in April is about 41. We're going toward the end of the month, so maybe a little higher if we're lucky.

Where's Dave Marchand on this trip? I haven't seen a post on him coming or not. I think we're going to have a pretty sizeable group though, should be cool. And Charles is right Randy, all you'll need is a place to sleep. Us campers pooled food for a couple of pretty good meals last time around.

Marchand is busy until June so he ain't comming:( . Oh and guess what, I think your right, went out with Jimmy and the girls (Brenda and Sam) last night and by the sounds of it they are backing out on camping, saying they need a shower, they don't have good camping gear, and it's going to be cold:rolleyes . I said I have extra sleeping bags so they could double up to stay warm, I also have 1 extra air mattress they could use, and I know Jimmy has 2 tents. I even told them I stood up for them on the forum saying (from what they said originally) that they were camping, then they made it seem like it was my fault!:confused Ahhh you can't win!

Cold enough that they are getting a room at the Econo Lodge:rolleyes wimps, but they did say they would eat dinner with us and roast marshmallows around the campfire for a little while:), but I think I will need to get a special over the road license for all the “liquid consumables” (Yeah I spelt it right! Sam and Brenda!) that are going to need a trailer to be brought down in. They are also bringing Joey (their dog) and he gets to sleep in the hotel:eek:! Wimps ay!!!!! We were set to camp, then heard that it was going to be the 40's at night. That did it..... Common sense took over. Since there's not many girls out there in the woods, maybe a nice female grizzly bear will come in your tent to keep you warm at night. And we'll send "licky-licky" in the morning to clean you up! Well we already turned the heat off in our place to save money and it was only 50 when I woke up and I slept fine, so with my sleeping bag I'm more then good for 40. I don't like to confine myself to the rules of society so I drive in the rain with the top down and enjoy myself! Nothing about being a tuff guy, I never said I was or implied it, just having fun camping, one of my favorite things to do next to wheeling or working on the rover. If you guys leave at 4 pm, then the meeting time at the i-84 rest stop would be about 5:30 pm, as I think it took you about an hour and a half last time. Actually, maybe a touch later as you guys will probably hit a little commuter traffic on 495 and through Worcester vs. doing it after midnight ;). So let's say 5:45 to 6:00pm for me and Dave Hunyady to meet you at the rest stop. We might also hit some more traffic going through Hartford ~ 6:30 pm, I hope that's late enough to miss the most of it.

Been out of town all last week. It was in the 80's in Anaheim. The rest stop is about 20 minutes from me, so 5:45-6:00 pm Thursday night sounds good. That's probably late enough to miss the worst traffic through Hartford.

Wish I could get it some other time, but it's the only free weekend in the near term with the hitchin', honeymoon, bachelor party (which will consist of a lot of wheeling), trips to NH to finish planning the wedding and working for a living . . .
Charles, the Bentley people say I don't look like a rover person . . .
It's a '48/'49 Mk VI Special hill climb car with a bad frame but a screaming motor. She raced in the UK up until the late 90s, then was doing some fast laps as a pace car for the Texas region VSCCA.
Jason, if you know Bentleys, we just got my father's '36 VDP 4.25 running for the first time in 26 years last month. Funnily, Trevor Griffith's father has turned a wrench on that car a couple of times.

200 posts is about right for the # of times we get off track. If you look back at other trips to RC/Paragon they were all in the 130-150 mark, but we planned this one early, and there's allot of people comming so we have now hit 200.

Tyler, was Exit 77 on I-81 where we split, or where we ate? If it's where we ate, it's almost all the way there.
I'll need to look at a map, but surely there's a good spot closer to us to meet up?

OK guys the trip is almost upon us, Jimmy Scott, and I were trying to figure out what to do for food and stuff, with a group this size it is going to be hard to orginize what everyone should bring, especially with some of us being there for 3 days and some only for 1 day. Our plan as of now is we are going to bring enough stuff for us and some extra, if everyone does the same I think it will work out much easier, unless someone wants to try and orginze this thing but if you haven't noticed we have had a hard enough time just orginizing who is going what days.
What does everyone think?

Megan is going to sit this one out. It's her B-Day on Sunday so I'll have to sneak back home on Saturday night (I'm headed up on Friday). I also think it going to be too cold for her likeing and she'd rather be at home.
To answer Mike's question, I'm not sure the mix of Cruisers that will be there. I think the group split and a bunch are going elsewhere. I'm still waiting to figure out who is going were. I think that there will be a couple of old skool FJ40s in the crowd.

Tell your neighbor to check out the forum at www.ih8mud.com (http://forum.ih8mud.com/index.php?). He'll be able to sponge enough info to do anything imaginable to his Cruiser. There are also a couple of Land Cruiser events coming up soon that draw diverse crowds from newbs in stock trucks to full awn trailer queens. He could check those out and then decide what he interested in doing.
CMCC at Paragon June 24-26 (http://www.gclcny.com/cmcc05/CMCC05.html) GSMTR in Telico May 18-21 (http://www.stlca.org/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=4&tabid=7)
Oh, and these events are open to all 4-wheel drive vehicles in case anybody is interested.

Fill out the application and bring it with ya so you can drop it off at the office as we pull in the gate.
FYI to everyone, there will be a group camping Thursday night, I don't want to drive down to camp and wake them all up with our trucks and setting up camp. I was thinking if we want to get down there and sleep maybe we can just pull in the gate and catch a few zzz's until day break then we set up camp when everyone is waking up. It's that or we don't leave until 11 or so at night and arive late enogh so we don't wake everyone up.

If we leave Mass around 4 or so and it's about 7 hour drive (including gas stops) we should get there around 11ish. That gives us a few hours sleep, I don't know if the other group will have hit the sack by then or not.

Well after several tries at getting everything to bolt together I have kinda worked myself into a dead end. All I have to say is 97 parts don't mix with 94 parts, either one way or the other. So it looks like I'll be riding shotgun as camra man / winch bitch / spotter this time around. Come to think of it I am just saving myself the trouble of going down there, breaking something then dragging it back to fix it:grin. I don't think I have once wheeled 2 days in a row at RC, we need to start going to Paragon, I have at least made it out of there alive.
