I have a south african friend that moved hear to the states a couple years ago b/c of the instability down thheir. He told me they took safari's off road all the time to avoid landmines on some of the main roads. They always drove in large convoys for safety in which their were jeeps, fj40's, fj60's, jeeps, raiders, troopers and pajeros but he said at one time or another they would all break down or get stuck all except for one. You guessed it a D-110! Made me feel good about owning a landy.

Michael, I love that one!! ...never saw it... Hopefully me in a few years.

I really like this one....
I have started getting these on Ebay and framing them and hanging them up around our shop at home along with some Land Rover Neon signs as well as banners and metal signs. Really makes the shop look a lot nicer.

February 14th, 2005, 02:56 PM
Phil,
I don't have the high-res one's, and I don't think you'll find them online for that particular reason... I purchased all of them off of eBay and just saved the pic from when I purchased them. I believe there's a website that has all the ads on it... maybe someone knows, cuz i don't remember. I think I've got all of them now...
I have done what Jason does... except I don't have a shop... YET !
haha...
Cheers,
Nicholas
Oh yeah, almost forgot... There was a guy on here who works for the advertising agency that does Land Rover, at least until a year or so when I got this information. I was going to email him to see if he could get his hands on the original .psd's (the photoshop document...or something close to it that they use) and get them to the D90 Source members but I never got around to it. If someone knows the 'dude' (can't remember his name !!!) they may want to try that route. He probably won't be able to, but it may be worth a shot.

Nicholas,
Not to get off topic or anything but getting that shop takes time...It took my dad and I forever to convince my mom to let us get one....lol....We started out with a 3 car shed and just kept adding shit as we went. Now we have a place that we can work on any of our vehicles. I tend to invite all my high school buddies over for a night of partying when im home from school, that usually works good...LOL....If your married keep on the Mrs. and get a shop. I thought my dad was crazy spending all that money on tools and all but its really worth it....

I've sent you an email.

Here are two shots.
Lots of IIIs and Defenders. Funny that almost all tow trucks were LRs. The Japanese imports have however taken over and ALL new cars are Japanese. I saw 1, only 1 Disco.
My brother in law works there and he was laughing at me as I hunted the LR - to many to count

In 1965 Rolls Royce used to take a full size page in newspapers stating "At 60 Miles and Hour, the Loudest Noise You Can Hear is the Tick of the Clock". This was Land Rover's answer to that ad from the LA times in that year. Sorry, but the page was folded and had aged in the last 40+ years.
It was neat to see all the Land Rover agencies in the US posted around the perimeter of the ad. This was before British Leyland took over Land Rover and gutted the dealers and service.

You're welcome Mike, and Happy Birthday by the way. My family has been defending Land Rovers since my dad bought that Series II 109 in March 1961, which I still have by the way. There used to be some cool ads way back when.
I still have a copy of a road test magazine from 1961 where in one article they tested the new Porsche 904, with acceleration curve and all (0-60 in something like 6 seconds). The very next article was on the Land Rover 109, with the acceleration curve's "x" axis running out to 33 seconds and the Land Rover still not up to 60 yet. What a hoot!

I bought the pink BFG ad showing a Defender. It's much bigger than what my scanner can take (not sure, 2'x3'? not in front of it at the moment), but I will try to just take a picture of it. I'm assuming 8 mega pixels is high resolution enough?
Seems like taking a picture should be fairly convenient for everyone (assuming you have a tripod/you have stable setup/you are very very calm).

Hey just a heads up if any of you guys are bidding on the NAS 110 ad on ebay right now. I bought from this woman a couple weeks ago and it was ruined by the time it got to me. Make sure if you are paying this much for a page cut out of a magazine that at least its got a piece of cardboard or something in the envelope so it doesnt get crumpled.

I'd recommend either a direct connection (something like Skype to avoid any firewall related issues) or a file share like Shareaza/eMule/whatever is used these days.
The other option is a physical media shipped to an address.....
rmuller
May 5th, 2008, 04:25 PM
The file is 2.87 GB. What would be the best way to send?If there is enough interest, the best solution would be to serve it up as a torrent, that way we can all share with one another and share the bandwidth among us. The other solution would be to find someone who could host it on one of their webservers, FTP the file over to them and have them host it. If I still had a viable server I'd offer to do that, but the servers I have now are limited in space and bandwidth.
You could also try uploading the pictures to some place like Google's Picasaweb or another hosting provider, and let them worry about the bandwidth. If you want to try to send the file to me, I can at least generate smaller files for people to look at, and then contact you if they want the full size image.

I have a couple of these that I purchased off ebay a few years ago. The one I'm looking for is the one with the defender and the elephant is mounting it. I think it says "Everyone loves a land rover" or something like that. I remember seing it on ebay once and i should've picked it up. :angry
