Hey everyone, today my 95 defender left me stranded on a bridge. I turned it off while I waited for 10 minutes (it was a drawbridge). When I went to restart it, everytime I turned the key the lights would shut off on the dash and nothing would happen! I pulled the seat off to check the battery connection but all was well. I recently ran a new 0 ga ground, and 0 ga alternator cable. If I played with the ignition key it would sort of short out the lights on the dash. So I pulled apart the dash, took the ignition out and disconnected it. I tried to hotwire the thing as there are only four wires. I couldn't get it to fire up. Does anyone know which wires I need to connect to start it. Does this sound like the problem to everyone too?
Thanks

Ignition relay. Take off the fuse box cover, should be farthest on the right. Pull it and swap out another one and crank. That should be it. Almost positive!

you were so right about that damn relay. i don't know what it is lately but i have had to replace all of the fuel injection relays last week too! All at once I guess.

glad I could help. Take a look at the main grounds when you have the time. Might be causing the relays to get hot which leads to failure. Might also just be time for them to go!

Just what you said. Most importantly, the main from the negative of the battery. There should be a frame ground on the passenger side too. If you want to be sure, run a ground wire from the negative post on the battery to the body also. It is just a little insurance. A good ground will help all your electronics work longer.
