View Full Version : PA Again! June 24-26

Well we talked about it around the camp fire and thought that the third weekend in June would be a good time for another trip. So who would be in for the 18th to 19th? I think Dave S, and Tyler thought they could make it, and maybe I might get my junk running by then (pray that a machine shop will do the work!).
So Mark your Calendars!

I personally would prefer the next weekend, as the 19th is Father's day and I like to do something with my Dad then. (No, I don't think I could get him to come along :grin). But I will still consider it and try to make it. And I'd vote for Paragon, as I've not been there yet.

Thanks!

There's always room Ernie, as these are full blown OHV parks vs. some limited number for a trail ride. Depending on how many actually show up, we may have to break into groups to be a little more manageable, but we won't know that until we get there.

You will have to consult with the Beer drinkers on what they like, I only drink the real hard stuff. The dates are set. We may do both, a day at Paragon a day at RC not sure yet. No idea on the other groups unless they post here I would not know, anyone else know? Bring whatever colors you like, but chances are they will look the same as ours by the end of the day, muddy brown and covered with gear oil and grease.

I just took a look at RC's and Paragons websites. RC looks good for Friday there is only 2 groups on the calender while at Paragon they still have the end of the big Hummer event. Then on Saturday Paragon looks good with only the one group while Rausch creek has 4 groups. Then on Sunday Paragon still looks good as there is only one group to RCs 2 groups, and Paragon is a closer to the camp ground and further North so it makes commuting easier for both campers and travelers.

The Rovertym guys are going to Rausch and will be there Friday afternoon, although they are not camping on the property. If you guys are planning to go to Rausch, someone needs to let Lynn know. The groups listed on the Rausch calender included a second group of Rovers because I had told Lynn we were coming there for this weekend! So it 's not likely to be that crowded.
I am going to be able to make it Saturday only, and I am going to Rausch (Paragon for me is another 45 minutes and the trails are so far apart, it'll take all day to run 3 trails!)
Have fun! Be safe!

I have no pics (forgot my camera) but yep we did get Jimmy's new pump in Saturday night and hit some good trails Sunday. Randy' 90 is awesome! It was great riding around in it even without a dash :) The TDi sounds GREAT, we'll have to get it a little dirtier next time! Oh anyone going to Paragon it is easier to use the force when navigating then trying to use the map! George that mud hole trip was great! Sorry we lost you guys switching trails, it's not like we really knew where we were either :grin Ken bummer you had to leave so soon after running only a few trails, but those girls can get really sick of the heat :) .
Then Sunday I road around in some guys freelander for a little while and I got to meet John C and Adrian finally! The Freeloader didn't do to bad other then getting cross axled real easily but then that might have been driver error :grin .
But then our luck went south on the way home, at about 8 pm in NY a passing by car pointed out that something was dragging on the ground, we pulled over to find the electrical connector to the trailer fell out and the wire and plug got messed up. So we found a Wal-mart and bought some parts to try and fix it. At 10:30 we still had not fixed it and were blowing fuses so we turned the Defenders park lights on the trailer and hit the road at reduced speed, we ended up at home at 3am or so.
Good meeting new some new faces, and good too see some again! :)

June 27th, 2005, 09:37 AM
hehehe... we tried to warn you guys that i was going to be slow going through the rocks.
I was pretty happy with how it did. Adjusting to the completely different driving style was the biggest throw for me and adjusting ones thinking that the lines and driving style you get used to with the larger Rovers are not handled the same with the Freelander. With a slight planning ahead and a variation in the line you take would greatly reduce the amount of "cross-axle" stops I had.
After 2 days of getting used to it, I would say the biggest improvements to make it more capable in the rougher stuff would be to figure out how get the ETC earlier or to be able to manually kick on when you want to or find some kind of lockers. But this is most likely better discussed over on MuddyOval. :)

You should Hack the ECU to take control of the ABS so you can selectively break each wheel independently. I think someone is or did do the on the Outer limits forum on a slightly bigger Rover. :)

After all it is my daily driver now and I do still have the D90.

He said he was going to come to MAR with his 90 to prove his Manliness, and don't worry about the Texas thing, I hear the trails down there are pretty spars so he'll be looking to come back to wheel!

Ahhh, sorry for not getting back to you last night, I totally forgot that and if I did remember it would have been a call back at 10:30, a little late for rover work! And I'll work on Rover electrics way before I ever work on a Ford! The Expedition had 120 fuses! and about 10 of them were somehow tied into the trailer!

There was four trucks for the Friday at Rausch,Rob & bill, Chris,Phil and Myself.Rob took the lead with me following behind. After doing a few trail Chris was having trouble with over reving and shooting over the rock, after a quick look at his truck the problem was soon fixed (enough said ay Chris;) ).Phil was having an overheating problem but not that bad that he couldn't finish the day.We did the ravine that was blocked with fallen trees last time and we all made it out first try.we also did a few water runs and the mud run where i popped the bead. After airing up we was about to hit a few more trails when mine overheated and went into the red, that was me done for the day,off to the jet wash.Even after that it was still getting hot on the way back to the camp site.Thank to Rob and Bill for guiding us throug the trails and to Chris and Phil for joining us.Saturday morning as we were about to leave for Paragon lo and behold i fry another gas pump,no wheeling for me that day.I drops the tank wired the pump to the battery and no go,whack it with a hammer still no go,have a beer hit it again stil no go,i kept repeating the prosses till one beer to many and hit my thumb. After wheeling Chris Von C & Mike after getting a call from Trevor with a part #(thanks Trevor) went to get me a pump(thanks to you two as well).Fitted that night i was all set to wheel the next day.I gets to the gas station and start pumping gas,in one hole and out the other,i forgot to connect the filler tube:blush (well i did have a few beers the day before).Chris led the trails in his Freelander and got cross axeld a few time on rocks smaller than i was picking out of the lugs on my tires:grin ,joking. We were doing the easy trails which was good as i was still worried about my overheating, which thankfully didn't re-occur.After stopping for lunch we split into two groups,Chris taking an easy trail out and us taking a medium which was quite challenging at times. Thanks all for a great week end.

LOL I don't know what was worse, hanging on the back or bouncing along in the back seat with the dog. I almost lost my head on the back, and I almost bounced out of the back seat trying to hold the dog down. Both made for a fun ride!

On the way home I kept hearing this voice in my head saying, "Put it in third and boot it!". :grin
And it was in a British accent.
Had a great time, would have stayed the whole weekend if not for the overheating problem.
Oh, and Roverchic looks completely different in person. :lol

Sorry I couldn't meet up with you guys this weekend! Our scheduled test tube baby making process changed at the last minute and I was able to squeeze in a day at Rausch, but after a small Disco power steering hose fire (not mine) and a broken shock (also not mine), I ran out of time for dinners/drinks/socialising.
Maybe next time!
If anybody is interested, we are going to Rausch again this saturday for the day...
