Reverse Light is Slow to Turn On-Why?

When I put my truck in reverse the reverse light doesn't come on right away. It waits several seconds, if comes on at all. Why is this happening and how do I fix it? Thanks.

I'll look at the diagram to night but it may be a bad ground or bulb.
