It has been getting a bit colder here, but hardly ever below freezing in the mornings when I start my truck.
I was wondering if anyone else had experienced anything of this nature:

When I fire it up, the RPM’s jump to about 2000 and hold there for a few seconds before dropping down in levels and eventually ending up at an idle of about 700.
From there, when I push in the clutch, sometimes the engine rev’s again up to about 1200 and I have to be gentle to get in 1st or reverse.

After it warms up, it seems to be OK, but still tough to get into 1st gear unless I am barely rolling or stopped.

It just seems to me that the RPMs should always drop when the clutch is engaged, or disengaged (not sure which) but sometimes they increase as I push in the clutch.
Is this “clutch slipping”?

Thanks,MM

Me thinks the stepper motor is malfunctioning....they can be removed, cleaned and lubed, to improve performance.

My mechanic solved the same problem you descibe by removing the stepper motor and using carb cleaner. All has been normal since then.
